Soft top replace instruct: {by Bill in Fl ] I haven't changed mine yet because the damage to my top is so minor I felt I could get more service out of the existing top prior to replacing it. At the price I got the new one for I couldn’t pass it up! When the time comes to change it, I will do it myself. I have read the service manual procedure and studied the mechanism and the new top very closely. From what I can tell it looks like it would be pretty straightforward to change it. Given the fact that the top is mechanical, the process is simplified greatly and there is minimal “fitting”. The back of the top attaches via a reinforced strip has the holes pre-punched and it gets sandwiched between the top frame and a two piece plate underneath the rubber gasket that seals to the deck lid. The gasket is simply pressed into a groove in the mounting plate so it’s easy to remove and reinstall. The front is where you would do the “fitting”, pulling it to the proper fit for the “up” position and then attaching the retaining strip to secure it. There are two cables on either side that keep everything synched up as the top is raised and lowered, they route through fabric “channels” in the underside of the top. The cables are slack when the top is in the mid-point of being folded. I certainly could be wrong but I think this is one of those “sounds more complicated than it is” things. Granted it will require patience and an extra set of hands would help too. If I didn’t think I could do as good or a better job than someone else I wouldn’t risk damaging my car to save a few bucks. Besides, doing it yourself is so gratifying. Maybe the biggest benefit - who’s going to treat your car more gently and respectfully than you? You have to be the ultimate judge of if you feel confident doing it yourself or not. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12-4 Hatred corrodes the container its carried in... Geno - yes,,,that is EK Kesler, our friend who passed away recently. That particular car belonged to another friend of our's,,,who had several to enter into a car show. The one EK drove there for him,,,won the trophy, lol. That immaculate Chevy was sold to a person in NY state recently,,,think it went for the mid 30's? We really miss EK,,,he was a special guy. Also, he was my inspiration to grow my hair long,,,but my length couldn't catch up with him [but I had more of it].
