I think everyone may have seen Ed's Note above. Everything he is saying is true and I must admit That It was a trip to Jacksonville and one ride in his 5.0 that changed me And really was a big driver to start this project. I was told by dean at prowlerpro when you drive a 5.0 you will be hooked and I must say that was one of most fun rides I ever had in the prowler and why Ed drives everyday. Who else has over 140k miles of smiles. That tells you something. I was close to getting one just like it but ran across the 6.1 and jumped on it. And here are some Picts from that day |

2/22/12 build updates: Shop completed headers went out to jet-hot for coating this week. http://www.jet-hot.com The First set shown in previous post went overseas. Decided to get mine jet coated so required a few tweaks. Jet hot will coat inside and outside of the tubes and drops heat dramatically on the surface, improves engine flow .reduces friction heat, protects and increases HP Exhaust looks great, magnaflow high flow convertors installed and magnaflow performance muffler location set and ready to go. Did not go with exhaust cut outs due to space limitations and to maximize the overall set up. Once the headers get back next week should be ready to go! Bring on the Vroom vroom v8 hemi rumble |

Shaker update ( a prowler first) The afr shaker arrived this week and looks great. Took about 8 weeks from mich. Its direct injection, built in k&n filter, will pull cold air from above the hood, ports directly to intake in the front of the engine, has full drainage and is self containing. This unit has only been used in challengers in the past. This will be a first for the prowler and will look and deliver high performance and Hp. This is the best one on the market. http://www.challengertalk.com/forums/f134/afr-shaker-only-true-shaker-pictures-vide o-40365/
Afr created a custom trim ring mold off of the original challenger replacement hood that they normally make and supply for the shaker package. The only thing that will show is the core gills and top of the unit. The prowler Hood will be cut trimmed and then custom built up to insure a flush fit with the 6.1 Lambo doors a no go Will be returning the kit and keeping it stock.
With the new hard top I'm pre approved for track days with NASA and Good progress all of the final parts are in and wiring harness will be there soon. That will allow for a first start up some time in the next month. Really exciting ! This message has been edited by treyb on 02-23-2012 at 08:07 PM |

I think that the shaker will look killer when it's installed. My initial thought is that you might like it body color, considering its size compared to the hood width. Coating the headers is a very good choice. Move as much heat out of the engine bay as possible. It's getting closer... |

Thanks terry actually going with a red on black on chrome theme for the car. Black hardtop, shiny black bumpers (frount and back keeping them on since car will be used on the road and track)black behind TGF side panels, black shaker through the hood. Everything else red , chrome highlights on other items, new chrome pillar grill. Srt and hemi badges in select areas. Still black on red interior. Nice looking headers Trey! Jet Hot is great stuff. I used it on complete exhaust systems - including the mufflers - on my airplanes. Some of them were visible as the motors were not covered. They never discolored or flaked over time no matter how high the heat was. It was money well invested. Those headers will look beautiful in your engine compartment. Like a new pair of shoes. Very nice! |

3/7/12 In order to start the car up we still need the custom wiring harness. The reality is to get the electronics to all work 3 computers have to talk to each other the hemi one, the prowler one and the Trans one. Should be here soon. Coated Headers are complete look good. Kat tips are also back on so we are good underneath. Shaker update The whole Shaker, direct air flow, saving space, pulling cold air etc is right but it looks like The top of the hemi throttle body on the 6.1 already breaks through the stock hood position. So my idea was if we have to cut Through why not make it functional and help perfomance. Afr is the best hemi shaker in the market. The first 6.1 had a hood scope that brought air inside but not direct and I was mixed on the look On this one the aim was to do a real shaker. Big drum roll Here it is just the first shot through the good before any modifications. Heres what im learning. Performance innovations has been great and delivering great results with The big difference with this whole blog is its real time, work in progress and real. Most times people go tona car show and you only see the end product and say wow. I decided to do it different and really show what it really takes to get it done for all that maybe interested or even thought about doing something different with such a unique and cool car. The end product I think will be pretty amazing. It's all work in progress. This message has been edited by treyb on 03-07-2012 at 10:21 PM |

Wow, and then wow again. I am loving this thread. Are you going down there every few weeks to check on it or are they sending you pics? You have a lot of nerve, I will say that. I don't know if I could be the first to have my car all cut up and figure they "probably" would be able to pull it off. I sure hope every thing works perfectly once they get to the finish line. Thanks for all the info, pics and progress reports. It is going to be awesome. |

Your right Ed, believe it or not I kind of experience it like you see it in the posts each week. Im In NJ/NYC car is in north Carolina. If you know me I not normally a big risk taker. This entire project was done way different. I actually shipped the car without even meeting the shop. only talked by phone. I went down only once in dec for the first engine drop in. Each post and picture it is kind of me sharing the play by play like an announcer from a far. Brendans communication is great we make decisions together. It all comes down to trust and there was somthing about his passion to do it that made me pull the trigger. Risky it sure is. It's like an episode of chip foose In overhauling or west coast customs but real life with real budgets. Even if you watch those shows there is a reality behind the build, timelines get changed they have big crews. I have to trust alot and so far so good. He is very calculating and passionate about the whole thing. That really why I decided to do it. That's gonna be the big pay off!! Every time I get in it , reflect and hit the streets. 3 words time, money, patience and I guess being a little crazy and adventurous. From alot of my talks with other prowler owners that took on major projects Dean from prowlerpro explained it to me best as a builder "its a labor of love" to get into these type of things. |

Gary Ed you guys are great. I think I took one my last V6 prowler cruises with you both back in oct at the NYC statue event so from this day forward that my last real drive memory in the car and was a great time. So I feel a bit connected and appriecate all of the support. I look foward to the day of my next drive with just a little more pep in the step. I'm sure you can imagine the anticipation Gary as far as the price you are so right. He compared modifying the Prowler to buying a really nice new custom harley. Not much different and can drive the prowler with 4 wheels. He also told me about the options and decisions he went through. Prowler is paid for insurance is pretty low and for me with kids only drive once in awhile. What if everytime you drove it was like the ultimate driving experience. The cost for me to get simular peformance by buying a new vette porsche, fast Camaro, mustang or even a srt 8 is way more and none ever look better or turn heads like a prowler. I plan to keep it forever. Ed has 150k mikes on his car and smiles everyday that he drives his 5.0 cat. I hope to join the club of folks like him, jordon, terry, Laddie, mike k, milehi , marc 5.0#1 and many others that took risks with the car they had for fun in the future. Some day this summer i hope its me too. This message has been edited by treyb on 03-08-2012 at 07:55 AM |

Trey I know where your coming from on this. I just hope the reliability is still there. It's sounds like they are doing a great job and it will be reliable. You are in to track and road racing more than me, so I know why you wanted to do it. If I had a bad motor or other problems it would be easier to do, but I have a hard time rebuilding a perfectly good car. Might be easier with a cheaper salvage title or high mileage car.Once we all see your Prowler in person and you take us for a ride, who knows how many of us you might convert to the "Hemi Side". Trey, in regards to insurance, my company asked if my car had a modified engine. This was not in regards to my prowler but another classic I have. Apparently they look at a modified engine a little differently and sometimes will decline coverage. Not trying to be a fear monger. Just your comment on low insurance costs reminded me. I'm sure you are on top of that. |

I'm with Haggerty and got everything preapproved with the project so should be just fine. Their coverage allows you to Set your limits and I already had the highest allowable amount on the prowler before. It was also already classified as modified in the books. I informed them upfront on the hemi project and they where great and supportive.i just need to share my final build sheet details on the new components etc so its clear for replacement purposes. This will also allow me increase coverage amounts above standard. I have the details already and it's not that bad. |

Trey what a great build thread. you stated this isn't everything Make a CD of all you have on the car build. I did a slideshow of the Dart, you have much more detail, you will be glad you did. I had some help on my slideshow that made it fantastic. Hope you can see over that hood ........... LOL It should look great once completed, but you will have to just remember where the right front is cause you are never going to see it. |

Mr mcgoo. Thanks for the feedback I think the passion started back in 2002 when CJ set up a tour for us of the Conner ave plant. I saw prowlers being built from scratch. Like hand assembly and the people where really dedicated to making them, it was amazing. During this hemi conversion project the car is pretty much stripped and it reminds me of the Tour and same process since every thing is custom. It's like building a brand new prowler. This time the builder is Brendan and the team from performance innovations. That's me in red. Just another reason to be passionate about the car and performance possibilities of having a true hemi and everything else we are doing to the car. 4/16/12 building a custom prowler hood Now this week was very interesting. As you can see there been alot of custom welding in this project. So Brendan and the team decided to take another route and start over. The prowler hood is made out of aluminum to save weight. The goal here is to create a custom hood that integrates the shaker into the curves and design. So they have decided to create a custom aluminum panel to raise the over hood to line up to the shaker so it will look almost like more of a stock piece. Aluminum can be formed welded and the directly integrated into the current prowler hood. The first step was a custom trim ring. Then using tape the team laid out the build up outline design form the custom aluminum piece to be built, formed and attached to the hood. As you can see its slopes only leaving the top of the shaker sticking through. Very creative. See side view This maybe hard to picture but I really like the concept and think its the best option. As you can see It's alot of trial and error and testing but shows the creativity and craftsmanship of the shop. When you see the real piece I think it will really connect. Aluminum Forming and welding to kick off next week. This message has been edited by treyb on 03-16-2012 at 05:09 PM |
