5.7 on a number of previous jobs using normal engine mounting positions fits under the hood. The 6.1 srt has a higher throttle body so it may be a a tight fit. I've been told there is means to scale down the throttle body height to make it fit. Not at that stage yet, there is a ton of more work to do before the hood, and most of it is Custom. I'm Looking to make the car a bit more aggressive with a red on black theme and exploring options. I think the 6.1 hood emblem look of the challenger is cool, lets you know what's inside but the prowler body lines are different. We will see. For those interested here is the hemi family spec line up A few messages came in on the difference of the 6.1 According to allpar.com The SRT engine includes numerous modifications from the standard 5.7, such as: Reinforced bulkheads. Larger cylinder bores, by 3.5 millimeters, honed with torque plates to ensure a truer bore. Oil squirters, aimed at the underside of each piston, aided by a special oil pump pressure relief valve. Modified oil pan and windage tray. Larger-diameter, flat-top pistons with high-load capability. Revised connecting rods using higher-strength powder metal material. New floating piston pins. Crankshaft forged from micro-alloy steel, in tri-metal main bearings, with retuned damper. Head ports designed with larger cross-sectional area. This allows 11 percent higher flow in the intake ports, and 13 percent higher flow in the exhaust ports. A billet steel, high-strength camshaft features more overlap and lift for better performance. Intake valves feature hollow stems and 2 mm larger heads. The hollow exhaust valve stems are filled with sodium to dissipate heat. Premium valve springs with external dampers enable higher engine speed operation to 6,400 rpm and allow the peak output engine speed to increase to 6,000 rpm from 5,000 rpm. Specially designed intake and exhaust manifolds. Cast aluminum intake manifold with shorter, larger-diameter and tapered runners for high-speed tuning. Internal runners are core-dipped to smooth the runner finish and improve air flow. 14% higher fuel injector flow capacity; higher-flow air cleaner box with a tuned resonator delivering a deep performance sound character (and good for an extra eight horsepower). Exhaust headers are individual tubes encased in a stainless steel shell. Exhaust runners allow increased gas flow while maintaining fast catalyst light-off, while adding 12 horsepower over the 5.7-liter engine’s cast manifolds. Dual knock sensors with premium fuel This message has been edited by treyb on 12-07-2011 at 06:08 PM |

Trey, you may be able to get more room by getting the louver panels installed on your hood like I did with mine... I bought the panels from a guy in California then my painter added them... they really clear a lot of heat from the engine compartment.... There are a couple of build pictures of the work on my website www.prowlerfromhell.com good luck with the project.. Jim |

Since I'm partial to Cuda's, I say a custom SHAKER is called for. I know the lines are different, but............. This is on my bucket list, or maybe the Viper 10, right jim? ------------------ |

Yes Tom that would be nice but its uncharted territory however they do say " Anything is possible if you throw enough $ at it "... probably supercharging the 6.1 would match the Viper HP and that is do-able, very deep pockets would be required.. SRT10 Prowler does have a nice ring to it..

quote: I thought the same thing about the shaker, it was tried by a former member, aftermarket supplier and would be a lot of work to make it look right I tried to get the guy that owns AAR to make a Prowler hood, he was not interested in it since the market would be so small |

I like the shaker hood concept also. Would be fully functional pull cold air etc. alot exsist to work with the hemi. The problem is size. The shaker sitting in a prowler with the mounting locations etc would be so different than a challenger or charger. Here goes an all in one that is nice but it's so big. Would have to be very custom, and costly. Will see later. also it covers up the engine a bit if you pop the hood open at a show. If you wanna go bigger go with the new crate 392 6.4 srt. 475hp and 460 Fpt naturally aspirated and should fit. More than enough. 12/7 shaker update This message has been edited by treyb on 12-07-2011 at 05:33 PM |

Prowler Hemi conversion fabrication updates From theperformance innovations blog site http://per4manceinnovations.com/blog/ These guys are great!! ------------------------------ December 1st, 2011 We have been working hard getting all the parts designed and built for the Plymouth Prowler Hemi conversions we are working on. Prowler engine bay stripped and awaiting test fit of the 6.1 Hemi engine. Pictured here is our custom bell-housing engine adapter to adapt the 6.1 Hemi engine to accept the prowler style drive shaft. The rear engine mount is also integrated into the bell-housing.
More pictures will soon be coming once we get the engine installed in the vehicle. Custom headers and exhaust work are soon to come.

RDec 7 2011 updates NHRA that( governs car racing) basically limits convertables to about a speed of 13.5 on the 1/4 mile. With the 6.1 plan on smoking that so started looking for options and to also change the looks up a bit. Found a great deal on a nice used black TGF hardtop in california on craigslist. Now Its currently being crated and on its way to join project SRT in NC. Should be a nice add supporting the red on black theme and buy some more time for track days.

That engine looks like it is 6 foot tall when it was on the hoist. Are you sure the oil pan isn't sitting on the floor? It's got to be exciting watching that install. |

Ed perf innovations did a great job, I'm very impressed with the work and great guys. Seeing it in person is awesome. It Takes me back to 02 when Bob & CJ set up for many of us to take a final tour of the Conner ave plant before it shut down for the prowler. Seeing the car built before by hand, feels like the same passion it takes to get a custom job like this done. The team did shave a part of the railing to clear the frame and still will continue to tweek the oil pan as needed to insure a good clear down under.
