3. Medicare Part D approval was a good thing,,,,you wouldn't want us old folks to pay excessive dollars for Rx's would you?

4. Extended Unemployment benefits, beyond states' limitations,,don't need to be covered by federal dollars....let the states' decide and pay for their own benefits, to their own unemployed. No sense in making not looking for a job,,, an attractive situation,,, to do nothing but collect a check.

5) •Inaugural festivities funding

After Obama's victory in 2008, his inaugural committee abided by what it called "an unprecedented set of limitations on fundraising as part of President-elect Obama's pledge to put the country on a new path." That meant taking no corporate money and no individual contributions in excess of $50,000 to pay for the myriad parties and balls that end up costing tens of millions of dollars.

The second time around, Obama reversed the policy. The inaugural committee organizing this month's inaugural festivities accepted corporate money and imposed no limits on giving. A spokesperson cited the need to "meet the fund-raising requirements for this civic event after the most expensive presidential campaign in history."


6) President Obama in 2010 on Super PACs

When the U.S. Supreme Court issued its 2010 Citizens United decision, opening the way for the creation of super PACs financed with unlimited corporate or individual money, Obama became the ruling's biggest critic.

"Last week the Supreme Court reversed a century of law that I believe will open the floodgates for special interests u2014 including foreign corporations u2014 to spend without limit in our elections," Obama said in his State of the Union address a few days after the decision. "I don't think American elections should be bankrolled by America's most powerful interests, or worse, by foreign entities."

During his protracted 2008 primary fight with Hillary Clinton, one of the few areas of domestic policy disagreement centered around the individual mandate. Clinton was a strong supporter of the idea, but Obama was emphatically opposed. He described how "you can have a situation which we're seeing right now in the state of Massachusetts, where people are being fined for not having purchased health care but choose to accept the fine because they still can't afford it even with the subsidies. And they are then worse off. They then have no health care and are paying a fine above and beyond that."

But Obama signed an individual mandate into law as president. According to the Congressional Budget Office, once it's in effect, 6 million Americans will still lack insurance but will be forced to pay penalties totaling $7 billion -- precisely the situation Obama warned about. Most of those penalties will be borne by the middle class.

(Note That was from an earlier article. The CBO now projects that 31 million Americans will still be without insurance).


While we're on the subject of the mandate, it's worth remembering what Obama told ABC's George Stephanopoulos in Sept. 2009: "[F]or us to say that you've got to take a responsibility to get health insurance is absolutely not a tax increase." Yet his lawyer argued successfully before the Supreme Court that the mandate was, in fact, a tax, and therefore constitutional.
