CCJ, do not try to salvage or clean O2 sensors. They are very precision instruments. They do go defective like anything else in a car. The sensors prior to the pup converters basicly help control the fuel entering the engine. It reads the amount of oxygen ions in the exhaust stream and sends a small electrical signal to the ECM, which then sends a signal to the fuel injector on how long to stay open. The sensors after the converters only send a signal to the engine control module telling it that everything is either ok or not ok with the cats. Having bad or missing post cat sensors will set a check engine light but will not affect engine performance. |

CCJ, here is what I posted a month or so ago. Okay, here is the scoop. Dealer has them, same numbers, $ 115 each and $ 87.50 each for $ 405 total. Local parts store sells Denso 234-4077 and 234-4078. Total for all four was $ 209.20. I didn't have to pay sales tax on that total and may have gotten a very slight discount by using the account from work. Originally he told me $ 48 and $ 61 each, which would have been $ 218. |

The part number may have changed from the 99 model year. I don't know one way or the other. You can also go to the Denso site and look it up. This message has been edited by ed monahan on 09-23-2014 at 09:26 PM |

The mopar / Chrysler online stores only show ONE sensor for both up and down stream on my 2001. & yet advanced auto parts and oreilys show two different sensors for up and down. http://www.moparpartsoverstock.com/p/PLYMOUTH_2001_PROWLER/SENSOR-Upstream-Exhaust-Oxygen--Downstream--Up--Downstream--Upstream/6643021/04606133AC.html Strange right? There are four altogether. Two of each of the two numbers. I knew they didn't match from my experience last month. |

Pre catalytic O2 sensors have internal heaters built into them for quicker response. Post catalytic O2 sensors are not heated internally, only from the exhaust stream. From past experience the thread sizes of the sensor to the exhaust system boss were different so you could not install one into the other hole. This may not be the case with our Prowlers so use caution. The post converter sensor will have a much longer wire loom then the pre converter sensor. |

CCJ post your updates please when you can. Nice to hear someone else with O2 sensors that may make the engine cut, albeit momentarily. Good luck with this. |

Tiny update. Took the car for a drive today. Did about seventy miles. It hasn't missed a beat once. Running as strong as it used to prior to getting ill! So I think its fixed, thank heavens. |

Hi Brian, The first time it happened I took it to my local dealership. No codes came up at all. After that I took it to an in dependant garage that I trust. The first hook up, nothing. Second attempt the values on one O2 sensor as bad. I decided to replace all four to eliminate that as an issue. As soon as all four were replaced the cutting out happened more frequently. We then hooked up again and now it showed a code of the crank sensor and another code for the shut down relay I believe. So, I then fitted a crank sensor and its ran great ever since. Would be nice to hook up again sometime just to see about the shut down relay. But I guess that code came up too as the car kept shutting down? Good luck and I would change those O2 sensors. Thanks for the informative reply Dave! I plan on consulting with my NON Chrysler mechanic to see what he thinks. When he had it hooked up to his machine earlier this year it was dropping no codes. He has worked on a few Prowlers before in addition to Audis, Astins and Bimmers. I hope to get a chance to see him before the roads get covered in salt! BTW...ALL my sensors have been replaced. Have a GREAT weekend! |

Brian, here is what I found when looking for Dave. MoparPartsAmerica has them. 04606 133 AB or AC (not sure which) and 04686 154. The total for all 4, (two on each side) is $ 251.40 plus 52.80 Shipping. Total $ 304.20 Dealer has them, same numbers, $ 115 each and $ 87.50 each for $ 405 total.
