Drove Kat with top on 27 Apr. all good. Went to get in Kat 15 May. and "what the"??? The whole Hardtop liner had caved in?? Kat is parked indoors ALL the time. So I removed the top and carefully cut the liner out around the outside edge. Then reinstalled top on Kat. I now have a black foam liner on the hardtop, with grey edging?? Has anyone else had this happen?? and what did you do?? Let me know?? Thank You. Steve This message has been edited by Steve Conley on 05-17-2015 at 12:28 PM |

Common problem Steve. The headliners from the old hardtops are starting to bag out. You need to have it redone. Cost is $200 to $300 depending on the liner material you choose. Some owners have removed all that glue you see and painted the interior. Word of advice: cover the entire painted area with a low tack pre-mask of some kind to protect the paint. The top gets flipped over and spun around several times during the process and can get marked up. I've been there. |

Steve, mine is sagging in the front. Being held up by the visors. Got an estimate of 300 to redo the liner. When you cut the liner off, what is behind the liner? Is there another piece (like cardboard shell) that the liner is glued to or are you looking at the fiberglass hardtop??? |

Steve, The foam backing for the fabric actually separated with half still on the inner fiberglass shell. It looks and feels like black suede. Now that I have been looking at it, not too bad?? The inner shell is also fiberglass. And I am assuming hollow in the middle?? You can tell by touching the inner and outer shells at the same time. Steve |

When I got my hardtop, it was sagging in three places. I cut the headliner out and sanded the foam lining behind it until I got to the fiberglas behind that. I then painted the inside of the top with matte black paint. It looks fairly good. I don't need a headliner. I checked at a auto upholstering shop and was given a quote of $200.00 to replace the headliner. At this point, I'm just going to leave it painted. |

I thought of piercing a small hole and injecting some spray glue in strategic spots. If you could fit one of those small, plastic tubes on the nozzle, it might work. Might buy some time. |

Finally went to the upholstery guy today. This guy does mostly street rods and only does top quality work. He would not do the headliner unless the rear window was removed. It then depends on how difficult removing the window is and if it is damaged along with the rubber gasket. I heard that the window is epoxyed in. Anyway, seems that just cutting it out and removing the glue and painting it would be the only way to have it look correct. Any replacement parts for the gen 2 hardtop? Window and gasket? I had one replaced without removing the window. It turned out well and you wouldn't know the window was not removed. As far as I know, replacement parts are not available for the TGF top. |

I shared this with the upholstery guy and he cannot figure out how to do it without removing the window. This problem with the headliner is going to get bigger as time goes by and any info from your guy about fitting the new headliner around the window would be very helpful to others. It would definately be easier with the window removed but I took my top to a glass guy and found out removing the window is not an option. From what I recall, there is a small 1/2" ledge around the window. The headliner is glued to it, just like it is glued to the rest of the top. My headliner guy did complain a little about having to do it without the window removed. But once he actually did it, he had no problem doing a good job. I guess time will tell if it becomes a problem. This message has been edited by beachcat on 08-05-2015 at 01:39 PM |

I just had my headliner replaced about three weeks ago. It looks great. About the window problem, my upholsterer glued the new headliner up to the edge of the window and then used a thin plastic strip all the way around the edge of the window, giving a very professional finished look that is better than the original headliner looked by far. This was done for a cost of $200.00. Well worth it for the final result. |

When I got my hardtop had to have it painted we removed the window being carful not to ruin the seal around it as I understand you can not get a replacement. We found the headliner was tucked in to the window edge a bit so before reinstalling the window had the headliner stretched a bit so that it would go back the way it was looks perfect |

After the I got my hardtop back, the pins (OBI-WAN) were installed wrong. This shows the correct installation. This message has been edited by Richard Jackson on 09-11-2015 at 11:55 AM |
