My CD changer would stop under acceleration and I wanted to up grade to an iPod so after contacting Level 10 a local stereo shop in Mesa they hooked me up with what is called a Simple iPod by Peripheral Technology for Chrysler model ISCH72. See below pictures.
This set up is great. Charges all of the time. You can put it in the CD compartment when not in use and no holes you can see. Unit comes on automatically, all you have to do is hit the mode for CD and it's on. Sound quality is much better than the CD player. Cost $174.00 installed. Very simple install. Took about 30 minutes. You cannot play the CD player anymore, no loss for me. All steering wheels functions work the same.

I've got Peripheral units in 2 cars: the Prowler and my Buick Lucerne. Great units. I'd never go back to a CD changer. The Prowler unit installs in 15 minutes unless you get fancy with the cable routing. Buy carefully if you have an iPhone 4.0 as some units will not interface properly. Be sure it's updated for the current iPhone software.

The module is attached to the existing radio, very small, behind the bezel. The iPOD cable is then run under the carpet into the CD storage box. You can leave the iPOD in the storage box or take it with you.

You unplug the CD changer from the back of the radio and plug in the iSimple unit. You then activate it by selecting the CD but it actually turn on the iPod unit. The steering wheel controls change the tracks up and down on the iPod.

If you like music at all, dump the CD changer and install one of these! If you already have an iPod, this is a no brainer.

Very cool. I've been using an fm transmitter which plugs into the bottom of my ipod and just wedge it between the tach and the dash. Sound is surprisingly decent, but I tend to have to change the station from time to time especially around larger cities. That unit was $70. The cable is definitely the way to go. Thank you for the info.

You mentioned that the steering wheel controls still work the same. Obviously you cant change the track on the ipod though correct?

You can change the track or song on the iPOD from the steering wheel along with the sound level. The radio and steering wheel thinks the iPOD is the CD player.

I got it today. I am going to attempt to install it.
I don't know if you need to take out the radio or just reach behind it, up under the dash. I haven't looked yet.
I opted for the free delivery and it only took a few days.
I wasn't going anywhere in the Prowler anyway.

They send you three connecting cables. Two of them are similar and the other one is square.
It says on a 2002 Chrysler to use the square plastic one, number 3. In fact, you need to use cable 1. I don't know if that is true on all Prowlers but that is what I needed to do.
There was no place to plug in the square one so that left me with # 2 and # 3. I tried # 2 first and it wouldn't even let me select the disc option, only AM or FM. I then tried # 3 and it didn't work at first because there is a setting on the interface and you need to click the 1, 4 and 8 tabs when using the # 1 cable. You only use 4 and 8 on the other two cables. Once I unplugged it and pushed down the 1, along with 4 & 8, it worked immediately.

In summary, you need to click 1, 4 & 8 on the interface and use cable # 1 inspite of what it says.
It works fine and it only took me about 20 minutes, including the mistakes.

In summary,

Pop off the radio bezel, disconnect the power outlet wire and the automatic volume control wire (if you have that on the newer Prowlers), remove the two bolts holding the radio in place, pull off the round wire that will be on your left as you are looking at the dash, on the back of the radio, insert cable # 1 and try the iPod.
Reassemble.

Gadget Boy, there was something in the instructions about it but I wasn't interested and didn't really read that part. I still have them so you can read it.

Ed,
Thanks for the information above. I'm about to install the kit in my 99 and had some basic questions so I don't screw it up. Any help would be appreciated.

I've never removed the radio bezel - are there any tricks or things I should look out for? Should I disconnect the battery? I'm not sure yet if the power outlet is 'hot' when the car is off #I can plug something in to see# but is that a single wire that slides onto the power plug?. Where did you place/hide the square white plastic box and how did you route the plug for the Ipod?

Thanks again.

The radio bezel just pulls straight off. There are 4 clips on the bezel, don't use any tools, just pull it toward you. They are metal clips, not plastic
There are are two nuts holding the radio in place. (not metric). I did not disconnect the battery, although the instructions tell you to. I just unclipped the power outlet wire and let it hang there.
I had to use the round connection and that is on the back toward the steering wheel. I just routed the wire out the back of the radio and thru the small opening between the dash and the drive shaft hump and rolled the wire up and stuck it in the mesh pouch. The white converter box is basically just hanging in back of the radio.

If you come up with an improvement, let me know. The wire is really long but I didn't want to pull up the carpet, etc.

Ed,
Your instructions were perfect and correct for my 1999 Prowler. I used the same cable and settings as you suggested and it works great!

With the white box behind the radio, I ran the cable under the dash and then under the front of the floor console. The cord is easily pushed under the console to the back lid hinge area. From there I simply ran the cable in the cassette holder storage area. The cable interface can lay out in front of the console lid when hooked to my ipod and be put in the console when not in use.

Thanks again for all of your assistance - it sure made the job a lot easier.

You are quite welcome and I will attempt to hide the cord the way you described. I haven't messed with since the day I installed it but will get to it one of these days.
Thanks for the idea.

Thanks to all of you that contributed to the information here on the iSimple iPod adapter. This information made it simple to hook up my new Verizon iPhone in my Prowler, it is a heckuva lot more fun to use than my CD changer. It can hold a lot more songs than my CD changer and it also allows me to access my XM subscription through my iPhone as well instead of through a separate unit through a crappy FM modulator. I love it! I wanted to share pictures of my installation here as well as a hint that makes this even easier.

First, the hint: You don't have to take the stereo out to install the iSimple adapter. The CD changer is connected to the head unit through a long extension cable that runs under the carpet. The iSimple unit can be plugged into the extension cable just underneath the CD changer behind the passenger seat. As you can see in the pictures I hid the unit behind the carpet flap underneath my now-dead CD changer. I ran the cable beside the passenger seat to the emergency brake area. The cable can be tucked into the pocket netting when it is not in use. It is a very clean installation and was accomplished in less than 5 minutes.

In the pictures below you can see that I installed a metal plate to the radio face to hang my iPhone from. This $22 mounting plate setup was designed specifically for the Prowler by PanaVise (model 75106-299). It looks clean and has worked out very well so far. I attached my iPhone to it by using Velcro on a generic $3 iPhone belt clip holder that I lightly modified. It works great and I think that blends in well with the interior. Easy access and a great viewing angle from the driver's seat make this a great option for the iPod functionality and the GPS map/routing capabilities of the iPhone.

Okay, long enough post, here are the pictures:
