Mike K and I have emailed and Mike has expressed interest in starting a "Tips" page, so I have volunteered to help . This would consist of any helpful tip you might know or have come across while working on your Kat. The range wide open, anything you might have come across and found out an easy way to go, or something that might help a new Kat owner. Please read the thread and try not to list in duplication. Feel free to list as many as you like. I will start with the basic and foremost tip for a new Kat owner. Thanks for your help. 1) Order mud flaps, front and rear from your Chyrsler dealer. Alex asked me to post this again for the "Tips" page.. "The low tire pressure system (LTPS) consists of a transmitter with valvestem mounted in each wheel, a receiver mounted in the instrument panel and a warning light in the message center. The LTPS warning light will flash slowly and a single tone will sound if the tire pressure falls below the initial threshold pressure and the light will flash more rapidly and a continuous tone will sound if the pressure falls below the critical threshold pressure. The 1997's and most 1999's had the LTPS threshold at 24/19 for front and rear. Late 1999s (March to July 99)had a dual threshold of 21/19 front & 24/19 rear. The dual threshold receiver is a service replacement for all 97's and 99's. The 2000's with the new tires and 28-psi front and rear have a threshold of 20/14 pressure. The tire pressure transmitter is battery operated with a battery life of approximately 10 years. Also, if the LTPS warning light stays lit constantly, it means that there is a system problem: a transmitter is not transmitting or the receiver is not operating correctly. A dealer can use a DRBIII to investigate the problem and will be able to tell which part is not working. |

Install ceramic brake pads on the front ONLY. This will elimate most brake dust and will greatly enhance the look of your kat. Most owners purchase the Raybestos pads at a store like Pep Boys - Part No. PGD730QS. They are also available from CarQuest and various places online. ------------------ |

CJ, A part number would be helpful if applicable as not all tips will require a part number. I have a seperate Prowler Part Index page that will be going up in the next few days that will contain a very handy reference and can be sorted in various ways. There will be a form attached to this page that will allow anyone to submit a commonly used part for addition to the list. Alex, Thank you for volunteering your help on the new Prowler Tips Page! All Enthusiasts: Please give us your input here for a tip you would like to share (no funny stuff, let's be serious here). ------------------ |

ATTENTION - NEW PROWLER OWNERS: Right now examine the length of the front of your Prowler, make a strong mental note, and avoid what 9,411 of us have done - putting the Prowler nose up unto a curb. You are getting the benefit of our mistakes, so make the most of it! ------------------

Don't push down on your hood to shut it. Lower it to about half way and then just let it drop and have gravity close it. If you push down on the hood while closing it you may wind up with dents. The dealer showed me that one over two years ago and I have followed his advice. |

Make sure the latches that secure the top to the window frame are in the closed position before lowering the top into the trunk. Handle these with care as the replacement sets are expensive. Always strap the top when lowered into the trunk to prevent chafing. ------------------ |

Remove the center caps and run a bead of silicone on the INSIDE of each plastic tab that holds the center caps to the rim. This will reinforce them so they wont break so easily. ------------------ This message has been edited by butchcee on 07-24-2001 at 12:13 PM |

Here's one tip that isn't a tech tip but I think very important..No matter how uncomfortable PLEASE WEAR YOUR SEAT BELT and DON'T DRINK TO AN ACCESS AND DRIVE THESE KAT'S. I only had to look at the pictures posted last month of the silver one that rolled. Made me sick thought about it all the way to Deadwood Cruise. JMO. If I could repost those Pic's here I would just don't know how to do it, if anyone else feels like I do here and can repost them Please do PK |

PK, I agree with the drinking and driving. A lot of people do drink to excess to access though That's how Alley Cat gets most of his dates. ------------------ This message has been edited by butchcee on 07-24-2001 at 09:28 AM |

COMMON SENSE: If your garage is full of junk like mine, remember to keep ALL falling items away from the sides of your cat. I also have water skis and kneeboards stored above on ceiling storage rack- DA, maybe its time to take a day off to clean and rearrange the garage - I'd hate to damage that $3,000 hood! ------------------

When at car shows, gatherings etc., and you are showing off the Prowler's features, and discussing the finer points of 'you either get it or you don't', DO NOT forget to latch the clamshell truck, as a couple of drivers did considerable damage to their rides at about 20 MPH!
