Dan--don't forget that this kit is for a Neon. The two large rubber rings in the kit wont work for us, just the pump, pump filter and pump related seal rings. The ring I was talking about is the new style that you have to get from the dealer. No big deal if you have to change out to a new o-ring since you're an expert now. I had to snug up the cap twice before It sealed for me. I think the torque spec is 5 ft/lbs, but I never used a torque wrench. This message has been edited by butchcee on 08-30-2004 at 12:05 PM |

Hey Al, Some updates on what has transpired. First of all, my starting problems are all gone. My Prowler now starts on the first try whether it is cold or hot. My mind will have to get used to my Prowler starting on the first try because it used to take it 3 or 4 times to start. Was talking with Bob Wyman and he suggested I drop my retard knob 1 or 2 clicks since I have more fuel coming in. My retard knob was sitting at 9 o'clock and I went ahead and dropped it to 8 o'clock. In theory this should give me a few more ponies to the rear tires. Apparantley with my old fuel pump Paxton could not set it to this setting because my engine would start detonating at the top end (5500 rpms). At this setting they got 332 at the rear wheels. After setting it to an 8 o'clock setting, I got on the road and did a few WOT runs. The boost seemed like it would not stop climbing. My rpms hit 6500 and I backed off because it seemed like my tranny was not going to shift into 4th. My heart was pumping hard. I did not hear any detonation and my engine did not flat line. It used to before at high rpms flat line and my engine would just sit there and I felt like there was more but no more was given. I checked with the local dyno guys and they said they would have room for me next week wednesday. Will see what happens. By the way, I'm running Deans headers without Cats. I have enjoyed my Prowler even more these last two days. Thank you again for your R&D... Later... |

Great news Dan--glad you found your problem. I'll check out your site for the updated dyno run. Chris, JD will ship to you after his pump install. Arrange details with him--OK? |

Al, I filled up the tank and did several hard turns and braking then I opened up my bracket again and there were no leaks. I have officially handed the tool to JD today. He was pretty excited about having the tool. Thank you for your support Al.. Later.. |

Hey Al, Here is my new dyno sheet from last weekends run. I'm pretty happy with the run and I don't feel comfortable doing much more with it. I need to tweak the paxton injectors to spray a little more from 3000 rpms to 5000 rpms. I was in the 12's (Air/Fuel)and should be in the low 11's. It hit the ll's once it hit 5000 rpms and this is attributed to the programming Paxton did with my old setup. Since I added Deans headers and removed the Cats, my engine is breathing alot better thus running a little leaner from the get go. I gained 13 more horsepower from my last dyno run at Paxton. This was achieved with 11.5 pounds of boost with my retart knob set at an 8 0'clock setting. I almost felt I could have set my retart knob to a 7 o'clock setting which means no retard at all. I was to chicken to try it though. Once I adjust the fuel delivery from 3000 rpms to 5000 rpms, I think my horsepower might go up a little more. Thank you AL.... I would not be able to do this with my old fuel pump. Not enough there to carry me thru. AWESOME!!! ------------------ This message has been edited by dpena on 09-16-2004 at 01:17 AM |

good numbers Dan Here's a chart I found on A/F. I'm at 13.3 at the top of 3rd. A/F RATIO 9.0:1 BLACK SMOKE (NO POWER) GENERALLY ENGINES OF DIFFERENT BASIC DESIGNS HAVE THE SAME A/F RATIO REQUIREMENTS. THESE CALIBRATION NEEDS ARE TYPICALLY A FUNCTION OF OPERATION MODE, ENGINE TEMPERATURE, ENGINE SPEED, AND LOAD. GENERALLY A PRODUCTION BASED HIGH PERFORMANCE ENGINE WILL HAVE A/F RATIO VALUES IN A RANGE FROM 12.0:1 TO 16.0:1. COLD ENGINE |

I met a contact from TI-Automotive a few weeks ago. This gent stated that they made the pump for the Prowler, at least at the beginning. Their p/n for the stock pump (only) is GJR-400. #GRJ-429 has the exact same external features, but has a higher output (29ml/sec or .46gal/min). Does any of this sound familiar to what changes everyone has been doing? I had the Paxton installed about a month ago, but I'm only getting 224hp max (from 163hp baseline - at the rear wheels). This is only a 61hp increase, or 37%. Wasn't there supposed to be a 50+ % increase advertised? Could I be loosing that much due to the tranny? I've seen several of you have over 275hp w/ the same set-up that I have (Paxton headers & gears), except that I have the SSS muffler. Any idea's or input? |

S.T.--from looking at the pics of Dan's pump, the pump itself is smaller in size then the one I replaced in my 2000 model. I dont know how this relates to output. At .46 gal per minute, this would be 27.6 gallons per hour. The pump I put in is rated at 255 LPH that would translate to 67.3 gallons per hour. The bottom line as to whether you would need more fuel volume or pressure is where your A/F ratio is on a cold day at max boost . This message has been edited by butchcee on 10-19-2004 at 12:58 PM |

When Radcat originally had his Paxton put in (paid for HO and got LO), it dyno'd at almost 100 more hp. |

SPCLT, I had that power with the original paxton setup... I kept track of my upgrades on this link. Note: Review it and see how the power went up with every upgrade.
