put the pump in--no check engine lights or leaks.The car runs strong. I may cheap out and just try it with out dyno to verify before next Friday. Nice to have your own dyno eh Mike? Last time I put the pump in and had my tech tighten the cap.I made a tool that I'll loan to anyone that wants to do their own work. Eyeball engineering, but works good. There are a couple of A/F gauges out there and it would probably be a good investment for me at this time.Here's a nice one from Greddy with a memory. |

Chris--name the kid after me. MARC How about some information about when you spun your bearing? Did the oil pressure go down after and was it accompanied by the usual knock? What did the other bearing shells look like? From your experience, do you think it would be wise to replace rod bearings after a couple of years if your going to hammer it a lot? Was the crank salvageable? Any info or thoughts you can give would be appreciated. This message has been edited by butchcee on 08-01-2004 at 08:42 AM |

Al, sent email with more info but oil pressure and temps were normal for the 20 mile ride home from the track with no knocking. On a test drive a few weeks later still normal oil and temp but started knocking. Haven't torn it down yet to check the damage but after 4 years and over 500 pounds of N20 on this motor I'd say the bearings held up pretty well. Had a call from Dean last Thursday and the new motor is in and running. Car should be all sorted out for Woodward. ------------------ This message has been edited by Marc-Colo-99 on 08-01-2004 at 11:45 AM |

I put the AEM gauge in--what a sweet thing it is. Worth the $ . A/F at idle is at 14.7/1 and at max throttle at the top of 3rd is 13.3/1 with 14 lbs of boost. Tough to make a comparison as I didn't use this gauge before I switched pumps and just depended on the dyno A/F reading. Anyway, I'm confident that I have enough fuel and if something breaks, it wont be because of a lean run.There's more power to be had as I'm running 7 deg retard and can cut this back some with a two map system --one for race fuel and one for pump gas controling the boost as well. |

Here are the final sets of pics Al.. It is all installed and will test it out tomorrow. http://www.prowlerexcitement.com/FuelPumpInstall/Complete/index.htm Your tool works GREAT. I could not have done it without it hands down. The hardest part of the install was the following;
Beyond that, I know I saved myself roughly $500 dollars labor. If all goes well tomorrow, I will pass on the tool to JD. Later... |

Great job Dan--what's interesting is that your stock pump was different then mine! The replacement was exactly like my original, visually. I was able to change the wire block on the top of the pump that used the old leads instead of changing ends. Yours is a 99? You might want to pull the carpet back and inspection cover back off and fill the tank and do some accelleration and side to sides to make sure there are no leaks. My tank was warped around the neck and I had trouble sealing. It's OK now. The tool was a quickie as it was just going to be a one timer, and was a copy of a KD style that I saw the tech use, only my design grabs more of the rib. I just looked at your pics again and see you have a round sealing o-ring for the tank top. Did you replace with the new style sealing ring that is a flat ring?(square in shape when looking at a section view) I guess if it doesn't leak, it wont matter. The new style is the standard replacement for the round style.I'm pretty sure I mentioned it, but we talked about a lot of stuff. |

quote: Al, believe it or not, the square ring would not fit. I was forced to reuse my old round 0-ring. Also the larger rubber ring that outlines the outside of the opening, would not fit aswell. I just took a chance and left those two alone. I did double check the rubber to make sure there was no cracks on them. I hope they still hold up. I began to screw on the cap once I felt the rubber 0-ring evenly around the surrounding upper cap with my finger. I could tell when it had bounced off its track. Once I felt it even all around, I placed pressure with my left had and screwed the cap with my right hand. I got a work out but I think it worked. I will fill up my tank and do what you recommened. From a visual stand point and feel. It looks like it sealed properly.
