Didn't people get a new paint jobs when chevy&toyota had the paint flake off their cars,or did they get $1.08? I don't think all cars were still under warranty when it happen.

i think DC should pay the 800,000 as penalty for providing poor quality products then not making it right....it would be sad to see the laywers get it though....

Hey, Bob,
When I switched out all my original pitted rims when I lived down there, I had a good experience with DARCARS Chrysler in Fairfax.

You will find that this a sore subject on this site.

I sent an e-mail to Chrysler custome relations to ask for myself about their stand on this issue. I've heard about thier responses, but I never asked them myself.

Here's their response...

"Thank you for your recent email to DaimlerChrysler Motors regarding your 1999 Plymouth Prowler.

We suggest that you give your local DaimlerChrysler dealer the opportunity to assist you. Their service personnel have the factory training, equipment and information available to diagnose and correct concerns with DaimlerChrysler vehicles.

Furthermore, your dealer is empowered by DaimlerChrysler to determine the merits of any goodwill policy consideration for repairs beyond the coverage of your manufacturer's warranty.

Thank you again for your email.

Sincerley,

Stacie
Senior Staff Representative
DaimlerChrysler Customer Assistance Center"

I'll get by my local dealer soon (hopefully tomorrow) and see what they say...I'll let you all know their response.

Zack,
Thanks for writing your e-mail. Man...does that sound like a generic pass the buck letter.
I don't believe I have tried my local dealership on this issue. I guess anythings worth a try. Problem is that my dealership is so small...I don't think they have ever had a Prowler in their service bay. I know for sure that they were not one of the dealers even selected to sell the Prowler when it first came out. I don't know if larger dealerships have more pull with DC than smaller ones.
Have a good day everyone!
Brian

My local service manager (who is a Prowler Tech) didn't seem very hopeful. He said he would check with the district or area manager. I got the impression that he wasn't as willing to help because I had never paid for any service there.

I thought the fact that my car has low miles and is in great shape would further my cause that this is a defect (I bought it last fall with 4,000 miles with peeling wheels).

He mentioned another local owner who has a high mileage Prowler and said, "He's had alot of work done here...we'd definately replace wheels for him."

I'll see what the district manager says...you never know...but I'm not too optomistic.

I did give him the link to this post...maybe he will realize what a widespread problem this is.

I spoke to the service manager at a local D-C dealership that also sells Fords. He said one of the managers on the Ford side owned a Prowler with the flaking wheel problem and he had to buy new wheels.

I'm not sure I actually believe that, but what I think he was saying was that if the wheels bothered me, I'd have to buy new ones...

Local service manager called back...said District manager said it's a "wear and tear" issue since my car is a 99 model.

I asked how much "wear and tear" a car with 4,000 miles can have on it and told him that I want to talk to the district manager directly.

Waiting on a call back.....

Zack, Get the name of the other local owner. Track him down, trade wheels for one day and let him take "his" flaking rims in to the dealer. When the new rims arrive, take the other owner and his wife out to dinner and then all of you go Prowlin. You will have met a new friend and get new wheels. No problem whatsoever. lol

Ed,

Wouldn't work, I already know the other local owner as does the dealer.

Sounded like a good plan anyhow...
