Last week Thursday 8/11, got off the commuter van, got into my 2004 Ford F150 started the truck and run the windows down to let the hot air out, and guess what? I could literally hear the plastic disintegrating on the window regulator. I was told they did not have the window regulators in stock yet and they would have to get one from the factory, still waiting. So My assumption at this point is maybe all new cars out there have these plastic regulators Scarry Ya Think!!!

Don't say that, I have a 04 F150 as well, at least with the truck I can find parts in just about any junkyard in the country.Mine is currently in for surgury due to a Mercedes and a cement pole in a underground parking garage.

My neighbor has a 04 Jag. Came back from the casino Friday night, rolled down his window at customs, and guess what. The glass fell down into the door. He said the window was making a nasty noise just prior to the incident. Sounds like the same design flaw is in many different vehicles!

Yes it definitely sounded like plastic just cracking to pieces, have not seen what the regulator in the F150 looks like yet, but it definitely was not the glass making this noise. Oh! quincy, 04 Jag /04 Ford = plastic at least your neighbor does not have to worry about the Lucas electrical and smith gages any more, because the Jag is now built Ford Tuff...

My 2001 Cadillac Deville just dropped the passenger side window. Seems the regulator is part of the motor unit and you cant order it seperate. $350.00 (just for part-not labor)to roll the window up and down in a 4-5 year old car. Remember the good old days when you could just crank the window up and down? My 1970 Chev truck still works just fine. LOL

The latest on the window regulator! They left a message on my phone at the office last night, saying that the window regulator is still on back order and my not be in until the middle of next month (September) and that they were able to put the window up and I could have the truck back until the regulator came in. Now this is the reason why I'm Piss Off.I originally told them to see if they could possibly put the window up when I took the truck in there in the first place! This is another reason why I Hate Dealerships...

Ford had my 04 F150 for a week last week. It seems that the rear center brake light/cargo light had a design flaw and leaks. If you have a power sliding center window, it leaks into the window channel, causing the cables that pull the window open and closed to rust, stopping them dead in their tracks. I had taken mine in for an oil change and told them the ceter window didn't open anymore. They replaced the motor, that didnt work, replaced the motor and both cables, that didn't work, then Ford told them that they had to replace the entire window unit, glass, rubber, channels cables and motor, along with the redesigned third brake light. Took them a weeek, they put me in a loaner, and said they had four more to do after mine. Ford said it effects ALL F150 4 door trucks with the power sliding rear window!!! Mine just happened to be the first one this dealer did!. Got to say, their service was perfect, the called me every day they had the truck, apologized, washed it and fill the gas tank up when I went to pick it up! Thats a local dealer that you want to do business with.

TLRandall, Yes I have XLT Super Crew Cab with the electric sliding window as will. I took mine in last year for noises which I thought were coming from the center rack system or head liner. They held the truck for 2 days to determine where the noise was coming from, they noticed that the rear third back light had water inside so they replaced the unit. so maybe mine is fixed as far as that's concerned, but I will keep an Eye out further problems. My rear window does stick some times, but after moving the switch back and forth it will slide. Thank for the info.

If it sticks, then water got inside the channel and ran into the cables. There is a TSB for this, so you need to get it replaced, as it would be very expensive otherwise. It will eventually stop completely and pop fuses.

TLRandall, Do you happen to know what the TSB service bulletin number is? Oh! buy the way the service rep called me back at the office yesterday and repeated about the delay on the window regulator, can't believe they don't have this in stock? I asked him what they had to do to put the window up, He told me they had to cut some wires so I went ballistic. I went to the Dealership and the service rep I dealt with was not there. Another rep had asked if he could help me, so I asked him if I could talk to the service manager, he then asked me what the problem was,so I told him what the other service rep had told me about the 2 wires being cut. He then told me to hold tight while he went to talk to the tech, he then came back and handed me a cable run he said was cut off the regulator and that no electrical wires had been cut, relieved I accepted the answer. So now I'm thinking to my self the prowler window regulator had a plastic tubular incased worm gear, no cable? this morning I went into one of the internet search engines, ask for 2004 Ford F150 window regulator and low and behold there was a picture. So yes there is a cable run... This message has been edited by Jim C on 08-19-2005 at 07:51 AM

Don't know what the number was, but he has four or five more trucks waiting to do the same thing to. There is a run on the parts now, cause every truck is having to be done, according to my dealer. The motor is in the worst place, and the entire back seat along with the headliner has to come out. It was a huge job, but they did it well for me! No damages noticed, other than a few fingerprints on the headliner that I had to get out. This message has been edited by TLRandall on 08-19-2005 at 08:23 AM
