We are averaging about $2.45 around here for regular. Crude is now over $66 a barrel.
I'm still thinking about buying some stock in Valero or ConocoPhillips. This message has been edited by 01Prowler on 08-12-2005 at 09:53 AM |

Jumped $.10 yesterday, now at $2.45 for cheap stuff. I think the gas station is making more when we fill up a new vehicle than we are with this employee pricing! LOL chris |

If I recall, there are a couple of folks on this site that work in the oil industry at the local level, and maybe they can tell us what's going on. I know the local gas distributors and station owners are not getting rich, but I do have a question about oil company profits. The new energy bill signed in the past week by the President provides millions of dollars in tax breaks for US oil companies. Last year (2004), the major US oil companies reported RECORD profits. What the hell is going on and why do they need the tax breaks? Are they for oil exploration or for research on alternative sources of energy? |

South burbs was at $2.75 for regular unleaded, nw burbs was at $2.55 a gallon for same! HATE to see what it is in the city of Chicago ... bet it IS over $3.00 there. Drill in Alaska and say to heck with the middle east ... at some point they will beg us to buy their stinking oil again! |

Reg @ $2.60. In spite of high prices, the weekend hikes continue here. Seems 1 thing that stabilizes or lowers prices is an "investigation!" (granted nothing ever comes from them) Might be time. This message has been edited by MIKE GATLIN on 08-12-2005 at 01:10 PM |

quote: I'm with you Bob. They should get no breaks whatsoever. If they don't want to spend their money for exploration or R&D then they can go under. OH WELL! That's when the alternate fuels will prosper. Government if anything should cap profits on oil and gas. |

Check www.gasbuddy.com They may have gas prices in your area. You search by zip code. You can find the lowest price without having to search. The spread around here is almost $.20 per gallon. |

I had a large Texaco service center with 8 mechanics stalls plus food store. The price of gas does not change the profit margin of ownership. When price increases it is only because of increase from suppliers. The only benfit to station owners is the gas left in ground was bought at a lower price. If station pumps a lot of gas the turn over is great so never much left at a lower price. |

I understand about the gas station owner/operators not getting rich,,,,,,,neither are the middlemen like our Randy Cobb in N. Carolina. Chromer works for Conoco-Phillips in Denver. This thread isn't about flaming our two members in the business,,,,,just prices in your area,,, thoughts about opening up the Alaska shelf of possible oil supply,,,,,,,,,,and maybe trampling on the liberals who caused this situation** ** - [just giving Fat Pat something to laugh at, ] |

Supply and Demand.....Recent reports say that we are consuming daily what is being produced, and soon global requirements will be greater than what can be produced. It will soon be going to the highest bidder. The recent economic boom in Asia has sent steel, lumber, and yes gas prices to their highest ever. There will be a Global shortage, but first the oil producing Nations are going to bleed every dime they can out of us. $1.10 per litre here....that's just under $4.00 US per gallon. There is apparently more Oil in the Alberta Tar Sands than there is in all the Oil producing Arab Nations put together. Just the extracting process was to costly.....wonder how much per barrel they need to make it worth while? Lets go back to steam power, only using salt water. Fresh water is too precious. |
