Anybody out there willing to part with a stock stereo? Maybe one of you who have upgraded? Seems like mine took a dump while having the car painted. Works almost like the antenna is not hooked up. Took it out and disconnected the antenna and lost even more stations. I don't want to put a lot money into repair of this one. And want to stay with stock look. So,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, if anyone is giving away their old one, let me know. (or a fair price for sure). Thanks, ------------------ |

JD, If FM reception is you only issue, it could be the FM signal booster that went out as well. Without it, reception is horrible. ------------------ |

I lost both. Weak signals in AM and FM. I am 30 miles from San Francisco and 10 from San Jose. So there are plenty of stations out there. I am going to try plugging someone's antenna into it to see if it gets better. When I do a search at the dash control to find stations, it just goes through the whole scale maybe finding two or three. ------------------ |

JD, When I installed my Neo Jukebox, I found I had bad radio reception. What I believe has happened is that I wired the Jukebox into the stereo power and the jukebox took the circuit over it’s limit. When the jukebox is powered on, the reception is bad. When it’s off, it’s back to normal. I believe the Antenna Amplifier is the piece not actually receiving it’s full power. Considering I can “fix” it with tuning the unit off, I haven’t actually dug in to move it to a different circuit. The Antenna Amplifier is located between the center duct and the driver side speaker under the instrument panel dash according to my manual. I haven’t actually opened it up to see it, but I assume it’s there. I’ve never heard of a booster for AM signal, but defiantly for FM. Besides, I assume the booster is there to supplement the FM antenna in the glass due to it’s poor reception. But to be honest, given Mike’s background, he would know more about this than I. Since I have the ability to turn my reception on and off, I thought I would do a test for you. I didn’t count FM channels with it on and off. Just suffice it to say, I almost can’t get any FM channels when I have the Amplifier power deprived. But I did count AM channels and found that I got a whopping 7 as opposed to 5 when the Amplifier was on. Hope this all makes sense. Sorry to clutter your classified request with all this. But you problem could be in the Antenna Amplifier, or any custom stereo additions you have made. Hope this helps |

Yep, it helps, and thank you. I will do more checking tomorrow. I have had the dash off several times this past few days for other issues. Thanks again, John |

Sounds like someone is trying to tell you that you need to upgrade your stereo. |

Want to thank you all for the input. Pulled the dash top off once more to check the wire mentioned. Sure enough, it was in the cavity, but not touching the connector. As soon as I did that, bingo. Everything works like new once again. Thanks for the advise Whealy, and Curtis for the PM also. Bob, when I get the radio I will return it back to you with a little something for your trouble. Sorry for bringing back up an old post, but I wanted to go back and update this based off new information. I have installed the same Neo Jukebox in my RX-8. And, I had the same problem with radio reception. I just figured that is was a similar wiring issue to what I had posted here. However, yesterday evening, I re-wired the RX-8 to power the unit off the same fuse as the V1 line. The poor reception persisted! So it’s not (nor was in the case of my Kat) an issue with amps on the power line. It would seem the Neo Jukebox puts out some kind of signal that interferes with radio reception when it’s on. Not sure what it is, but as of yet I’m not glowing in the dark … Just wanted to update this information. |

Whealy, If i'm correct in thinking the Neo Jukebox ties into your antenna lead and the signal is picked up on an off station on the FM band. I have the same with an aftermarket CD Changer. As long as the power is off it emits no signal which does interfere with the Radio reception. ------------------ |

MD, Nope. No FM modulation on my Kat setup or my RX-8 setup. Check out this website http://www.logjamelectronics.com/piechry98aux.html for a device that gives a clearer connection. You can find more posts on it here : http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/001031.html |
