My beautiful wife bought me a new Kenwood car stereo for my birthday today that has satellite radio & plays MP3's, but, I have been tossing up the idea of putting in a Neo Jukebox instead. My reasons being is that I'm not to crazy about taking out the stock radio that comes with the Kat due to effecting the warranty, as well as the looks.. Has anyone replaced theirs, and how does it effect the warranty..? Also, I have heard good and bad about the Neo Jukebox, has it worked out for any of you..? |

Dmathieu, I’ve got the Neo in my cat. Works much better than the skipping (moisture collecting ) stock stereo for me. The biggest problem I have with it is were to put the wired display. Currently it sit across my cup holder. I’d really like it integrated with the head unit. That’s not an option with the stock unit. Also, I liked the Kenwood music keg as a possibility but didn’t care for the 1 din head units they have. Well now, Kenwood has a one din unit that fold out for use as opposed to just removal. Looks to me like it might just be big enough to “fill” the stock space better. However, the local best buy still doesn’t have it even though Crutchfiled does. But of course I already have the Neo so I’m stuck right. Nope. Just bought another one to put in my PT and they now have a wiring kit that will allow you to attach to a Kenwood deck. Haven’t gotten the specifics directly but from what I read if allows the neo to interface with the head unit displaying the text and navigation options! That gets rid of the wired remote issue. All I loose now is the steering wheel buttons. Of course there was a recent post about a unit that converts those buttons to a programmable remote signal that I assume could be used with the Kenwood. Just some food for though from someone that’s been toying with the idea recently. Just make sure that if you get one don’t use the FM modulation. Get the PIE unit that allows you to use the CD harness. All you need to do then is run power and ground to it an your set. Good luck with whatever approach you try. ------------------ |

Whealy, great thanks... One thing that I was told at Best Buy is that the Neo J will give me inferior sound and that I will need to crank up the stereo a lot more to hear it. He also said that I would get a "hissing" sound from out of the speakers.. Do you have any of these problems? |

Dmathieu, That's correct if you use the FM modulation. It's horrible. It was like listening to a snake sing. The neo manufacture sells a device that fools the Prowler head unit into thinking there's a CD changer hooked up and convert the input to RCA. I had only seen these at the Neo site, but found them online for cheaper. Definitly the way to go if you get one of these. The Worst Buy people here don't know anything about the direct wire I'm describing and told me the same thing you heard. EMail me direct if you get to the point where you need the seperate device around $75 and I'll look up the info. ------------------ |

dmathieu, Here's the piece and cheaper price company that i was talking about. Took me a little while to remember how to find it. I beleive you need the 98 version for the stock head unit regardless of Kay year. |

Mike, Glad I could help. Which XM do you have and where are you putting the display? Hollywood, Don’t you already have one? As I recall you’re the guy that first brought the Neo to anyone’s attention. I know at least mine. Yea I “mounted” mine where the CD changer was. Although I used a special kind of velcro and one existing bolt. I think when I get the roll bar put in permanently, I’ll have the guy doing the work properly attach the Neo too. Just didn’t want to drill back there blind knowing the gas tank is close buy. |

quote: Here are the pictures of the Sony DRN-XM01C XM satellite radio in a Prowler: Close up of the XM radio I put the radio in the pocket on the side of the console They recommend installing the antenna on the outside of the car, but I first tried it on the dash and it will wedge between the glass and the dash, but I found that it worked perfectly on the rear of the console even in my garage! |

Hollywood, Hope that project goes well for ya. Check out the PIE harness it you haven’t already. I think it will simplify your install. Of bring it up to Indy and I’ll give ya hand Mike, Cool and thanks for the pics. You’ve got it portable enough to move it from car to car. Of course once you go to the wire harness off the CD you would need one for each car. The wire harness only “exposes” the RCA plugs. But you can grab a 12 volt pair of wires off it before it feeds into the PIE box. At least I think that’s what I did on the Kat. I tried that on the PT and ran into problems. My assumption was that it was an amps thing as the Neo would only start with an error. So I direct wired from the fuse box. I doubt the XM would have that issue though. Hope it all works out. |
