Punk N PurpI have four tires ordered for my Prowler. It seems I should replace the sensors/valve stems at the same time. The tire dealer says I need to order them from the dealer.
I went by today and one dealer says it will be $250.00 each. $1,000.00 for a set of four. The other dealer says it will be $418.95 each.
Is this correct? I'm not paying an additional thousand dollars for tires. What if I don't replace the sensors? Do they cause a blinking going on or just keep the light on. I can put tape over the light if it doesn't cause all kinds of bells and whistles.
alrtgThere have been a few discussions regarding this over the years. I did a quick SEARCH for "TPS upgrade 2002" and came up with a couple topics. Other searches may come up with more information.

What? What tire dealer made that comment? One that doesn't want the business?

Do you have a DISCOUNT TIRE store near you?

Better find a tire dealer that will help you,,,sure isn't the first one you mentioned!

----------------------------------------------------------

You might go with all new air stems....they are cheap or free at some tire dealers.
Sensors? Are you having a problem? If not, forgo replacing.....mine are still working after 15+ years, jmo

jimsuttonHere is a idea ???? I did away with the OEM tire sensors and this what I have had on the Prowler for 3 Years now ...Tyredog TPMS sending unit .. sensors are on the valve stem small cap so no need to take the tire off the rim for a fix ..just change the small battery cap if needed --It will monitor each tire PSI and the tire temps know what tire is low .... small color readout mount it next to the Tac. price is around $300.00 ..Check it out You might like it ???
golfboyOr you can go without using TPMS sensors at all like millions of other cars have done in past years. Just another example of the government telling you what equipment to have on YOUR car. JMO.
ClayDAre you having trouble with the old sensors?
robinIf you need to replace them......? Who said . To put new tires on you don't need to replace the stems or sensors.
There is a update version. If needed. http://theprowlerstore.com/Products_Page_Parts_Upgrades_Wheels_Tires.htm
Good luck.robin.

Just tell them to mount the tires and leave the stems and sensors alone....
Or take tires to another place to have them mounted.....

Several have went with aftermarket sensors

The module is under the dash cap above the steering column

I put the newer module and sensors in my car then had to have dealer reset it.

If you want it to work this is the best option. Can get the module and 4 wheel sensors as an upgrade kit

Did mine last year when I installed my new tires. Should be able to do a search of my thread and get the correct part number for parts.

You can always unplug the module not sure if this will disable the chime & light if you don't want the system to operate.

WildCatIMPORTANT!!!!

RECORD THE SREIAL NUMBERS OFF EACH TIRE SENSOR AND LOCATION ON THE CAR

They told me it would have been easier to reset the new module and sensors had I done this.

NullMindI bought this one
http://www.steel-mate.com/TPMS8886/en/

and LOVE it ... you just screw it in the tire cap and it alters visually on the unit if a tire is low and you can fire up the iphone to see the exact reading, very easy and hassle free.

jimsuttonThe Tyredog is the same thing Just made by another company . Mine has done well so far
TooHipCatI purchased my 97 over 11 years ago and put over 120K miles on it.
I've never had a problem with my sensors.

Thank God!

2000CatI have the Tyre Dog unit, works great
cstallhere's a similar product - $179 complete.:

https://my-fobo.com/Product/FOBOTIRE#buy

BTW - if you just have a bad transmitter, you can buy replacements for about $20 on ebay. Then it's about $20 to unmount, remount & balance the tire.

padroo http://my-fobo.com/Product/FOBOTIRE#buy

This would be a nice add-on for vehicles that didn't come with a TPMS system. You could add TPMS capability to a trailer.

Largent$73 each (or something like that - it's been 6 months since I bought them) from TPMS.com
They make millions of sensors and are the OEM supplier to most manufactures.
If you're not sure you have found the right sensor while searching their website, call them. They are super friendly and helpful.
I did have to take it to the dealer do they could re-sync.
Now, all is well with my TPMS...
