I am a new owner and have problems filling the tank. From what i have seen i need to replace the fuel filler neck and hose but i have been unable to locate one. Is there a modification i can do or does anyone know of where to get a replacement. Thanks.

Have you tried holding pump handle at different angles and use slower fill speed. I have also had luck with not pushing nozzle neck all the way in, put it in the opening just about a 1/2 ", seems to work most of the time.

Welcome and good luck with the filling problem. Mine only do it every great once in awhile. The 99s seem to be the worst for that problem.

On my '97 I hold the fuel nozzle at the 3 o'clock position to get a good fill.

yes, I think I have tried every angle imaginable as well as not putting in in very far but it still is very discouraging. Thanks for your help.

I've had the filling problem at times as well. It has seemed to vary depending on what station I filled up at. There's however no station that I've gassed up at that I've been able to fill at max rate. Always have to fill at slower fill speed.

I have trouble filling from a low tank. It sets the valve that blocks the filler, I believe. If I top off later it fills fine but I usually just top up at half a tank and have no issues. Kinda funky but seems to be a quirk. It seems worse in hot weather as I've had no issues even from a quarter tank during winter.

The reason for the difficulty in filling a Prowler's Gas Tank is because of the Tank shape. The Prowler Gas Tank actually looks like a pair of Saddle Bags, so to speak, there is a part that hangs down from the frame on both sides.
When you go to fill the Prowler, the gas usually doesn't flow ACROSS the frame to the Driver Side easily. That's why it's a slow fill but will fill easier if the Driver Side is lower than the Passenger Side during fill up. Gravity helps.
I had a pic of the Prowler Gas Tank to show for a reference but can find it. I know A/C has a copy, maybe he'll post it here.
And, the Fuel Filler Hose replacement isn't what works the best to try and make the problem fuel fill smoother, it's the Pressure Relief Hose that comes with the Fuel Filler hose as part of the TSB, when you could still get it.
Surprisingly, I remember the Relief Hose as being a slightly smaller diameter than the original relief hose.

The Prowler is a beautiful and eye-catching car. However, it is very sad that after years of experience building cars, Chrysler has not been able to build a tank that can be filled, or has not tested it. The engineers did a poor job, as did the chassis with the Koni shock absorbers which were so hard tuned.
This year I'll be trying to use one of the ports above my Prowler's tank to create a vent that I open when refueling. It's embarrassing to stand at the gas station for 20 minutes and not get the tank full.

I have not had any issues refueling. I've even drove it until the fuel light came on. I don't understand why some work and some don't. Is it a venting issue? This forum is the best place to figure it out.

I have trouble sometimes with my 99, but never any problems with my 01. I have always been able to fill 99, but does take longer occasionally. I have driven both until gas light comes on with no problems. Members in the past have had different results at different gas stations, maybe try that also. I hold the pump lever myself, not the lock on speed positions on handle to feed has as slow as possible.

My 2001 has not had this problem recently. I believe it might be an issue when filling at a station that has a very high delivery volume. I think that pressurizes the tank and sets the internal valve which then needs to be released before any more fueling can occur. In hindsight, I may NEVER have had this problem. Say what? Well, I thought my tank was locking up but in reality it was actually full! I found that my gauge was incorrectly calibrated - never showed full - and after major surgery (bent the float arm a little) it was perfect. So, my problem was the fuel sender, nothing more, in all likelihood. Once it read 'full' (okay, laugh you b*ggers) I stopped trying to fill it any more, and my problem disappeared. I recollect having one instance after that when the pump locked up in mid summer. Since then, naught. I leave the nozzle running on the lock-stop and it tops up perfectly, confirmed a few days back at QuikTrip from a 1/4 tank. As documented in a post here somewhere I replaced my sender simply to get a more linear response. Seems the variable resistive part of the sender can go off in unpredictable ways.

I throw this out as alternative fodder to spur lateral thinking. Nothing is as it seems these days!

The Prowler was an experimental car to begin with. So normal configurations were compromised to suit the car. Saying that Chrysler wasn't "able" is an over statement. There was a fill hose TSB on this as well. This is a unique car with a few unique quirks. I NEVER feel embarrassed about anything related to it.

Good informational video. I've never had a problem with the 00 or 02. The 99 can be problematic, but rotating to nozzel to the 2 or 3:00 position usually solves the problem. I remember at least one occurance when I had to try a different pump, and the second attempt worked without issue.

The TSB for replacement of the Fuel Filler Hose and Bypass Hose was for 97 and 99 model years Prowlers.
Starting in the 2000 Prowler Production, the TSB upgraded hoses were used. That's why a lot of 2000-2002 Prowlers were not as difficult to fill as 97's & 99's...

Technical Service Bulletin. If one of these is issued it may involve a recall and a part that needs to be replaced as part of the recall.
