This happens once before while I'm trying to pump gas into the tank, it kicks off every 3-5 sec's or so. I thought I was filled after spending 10-minutes pumping gas at the slowest speed possible, so I stopped and drove off. I only had 3/4 fill, so I went to another gas station down the street and it did the same thing, it won't let me pump gas into the tank. Every 3-5 sec's it would kick off, it took me another 5-minutes to top off the tank. Please help. This happen to me once before , so I stop going to that station. Tks AL

This is in the archives maybe it will help.

There is a service bulletin on the fuel fill tube. I've had the same problem, but my local dealership didn't do anything about it, and now my warranty is out. If you look in the Tech Section, you can find a list of the service bulletins. If I remember right, the fix was changing out the flex tube between the tank and the side of the car. Some of the other owners / members could probably tell you more. The bulletin # is 14-04-99. If you double click on the following, or type it in it will take you to the page of this website. http://www.prowleronline.com/techbulletin.php
Hope this helps.

I occasionally experience this problem.. Whenever and wherever I can, I park at a pump so that the driver side is lower than the passenger side. This seems to help allot. Other than that I usually just give up and go to another pump or another station all together.

some times its the dispenser, causing the problem, not the car.i remember filling up in wickenberg az,a couple months ago and it was a problem w/the dispenser.many countys outside of maricpoa, dont have to have the vapor recovery system installed.that sometimes can cause it to fill real slow.so if youve had the fix done and experience it ,that may be the cause,or the dispenser.

I have had the same problem with my 2001. I try pulling the nozzle out a little but it will still kick off.

I also had the FIX done on my car many years ago.

I use the same method as Rich, try to get the drives side down and front also if possible

Yesterday was filling Sue's van. It stopped several times and knowing it wasn't full, (1st time only pumped about 2 gallons) It did this maybe 4 times. She was reading the manual to see how much gas it held, 26gal, and it said to stop pumping gas after 3 auto shut off's. I would have had less than 5 gallons of gas had I done this

Sometimes it is the pump.

I had the problem on the 99 and had it fixed. It still did it sometimes.
I have had it happen a few times on the 2002.
This MAY help.
Turn the nozzle handle 90 degrees so that you are holding the filler sideways. It has helped on occasion. You can't stick the nozzle in quite as far and it is going in at a diff. angle and maybe getting dispersed differently.

Once I did the TSB (myself) it fixed the problem on my '99. It's not hard to do. Are the parts available still?

mine was fixed a long time ago.so if yove had the fix done ,it may be the dispenser, the dispenser i was using was so bad it would click off after about 10 seconds of fueling.finally gave up and went to another staion.

I did the fix, years ago, myself. Just remove the R.R. wheel and everything is right there. The new hose and filler tube are, Smaller?? Go figure?? But it really does help. My 99 went from awfull all the time, to just occasionally.

Was it under warranty when you had it fixed for free? I've been told that the recalls are done free but not TSB's.

recalls are free, tsb are not.a technical service bulletin is a report telling dealers of problems and the fix.

Just came back from my local Chrysler dealer and they said that even by looking at my car they could not tell if it had the new filler tube or not. They said they could order the part, which I must pay for up front, nonrefundable $643 plus labor and no guarantee that it had not already been done or that it would help the problem.

Looks like I'll be spending a little extra time at the pump!

That's what I thought and I asked them to. They had the car for a while and called me and said they didn't know if it had been done.

They are good at selling cars but I'm not sure about their service dept.

$ 643 ?????? I think it is just a rubber tube and not very long, at that.
