When I first saw the prowler at the Detroit auto show back in 97 or 98. I absolutely loved the looks of the prowler, like may others. I believed the front bumper to be an after thought. To make the car street legal and was made easily removable. I had 3 prowlers to chose from, once I decided to buy one,I picked the one without the front bumper. I think the back bumper looks okay because the car is wide at the rear and the bumper fits with the design of the car. Its not like the front bumper protects anything much. I see that most owner's choose to leave the Front bumper on.When painted the same color as the car is a slight improvement. It just looks so out of place. Of course this is only my option,I over heard another prowler owner say ( Oh know, the bumper has been removed!)they were talking about my car? and here I thought it was the one biggest single improvement you could make to the car.

This post is only for discussion sake, hope I don't get too much hate mail. don't want to have to change my name and move out of the country.Anyone that thinks the front bumper makes the car look better, or removing it wrecks the looks of the car. Let me have it both barrels

This subject has been discussed & debated several times--bottom line is: Lots of people like the BumperLESS look, and remove them. Many others still like the [false?] security of keeping their FACTORY INSTALLED front bumpers in-place! Not an extremely emotional subject--just boils down to personal prefs & who's willing to negate warranty SHOULD any front-end damage result to a bumperless model! I am very unemotional about the subject cuz I like them both ways. Tho' I still have front bumpers ON, they may one day be removed...just not yet! Ciao!

I,myself would rather have the front bumper remove, but in
the state of Maryland it is required. If you have them off your playing Russian roulette with the police.

I removed my front bumpers almost 5 years ago. Pennsylvania requires front bumpers for State Inspection, but so far I have not had any trouble getting my kat inspected.

"just boils down to personal prefs & who's willing to negate warranty SHOULD any front-end damage result to a bumperless model!"

I don't really think there ever would be a question about warranty problems due to any front-end damage resulting from a bumperless model. As far as insurance coverage if involved in a accident,,,,,,the insurance companies would probably prefer you to be bumperless,,rather than spending $825 for each bumper to replace, plus labor. Those bumpers are only good for a 2 to 5 mph bump hit,,,provide little protection when considering further body damage if in a accident with another vehicle.

I voted to remove them,,,,they look OK on,,,,guess its up to the individual owner to decide.

That IS a sweet front Wayne, but I don't mind, and have accepted the bumpers, front and rear, as a 'fact of life' and have instead decided to play the yellow/black to the best of my ability. I like them.

Lord.....this subject again. The bumpers may not be the most attractive part of the car, but they are there for a purpose.

FACT: The bumpers are positioned in the most forward part of the vehicle and connected to the frame. In the event of a frontal or off-set frontal collision, they are the first to experience the impact, transmitting the crash signal to the airbag sensor. Without the bumpers, the frame or front suspension takes the impact. This causes a micro-second delay in airbag deployment. The vehicle has always been crash-tested with the bumpers in place with airbag timing carefully phased to offer maximum protection for the driver and passenger.

So........my bumpers will always be on my cats.

Wow- seems nobody likes the bumpers but has them there for safety. I personally like the bumper's look. Gives a nice contrast in color and adds a different line to the car. Much as a hardtop gives different look from soft-top. Some people like one look - some like the other. I think the bumpers on is a good look personally.

The front bumper saved Frank and Brandie from going down the rest of the mountain in Tenn. My rear bumper got pushed in by someone at an angle. It probably saved my rear fender, which would have been the first crunch without the bumper. There is one local who hates the look with the bumpers off. Everyone has a choice.

I'm not crazy about my bumpers, but without them, I have an awkward place to hang my front plate, cops will hassle me, and my bumper saved me a lot of trouble once when the idiot dealer lot guy drove my car right into a brick pillar, bending the bumper back over 2 inches. The bumper took all the damage, and I'm lucky the airbag didn't go off I guess....But then again, I would have paid money to see the airbag blow up in that moron's face when he ran the car into the pillar.

In my opinion, the front bumpers are sorta like the signature of this car.
Never really looked that great with grey plastic but since I got them painted black,I think they look awesome!
The bumperless look is also cool looking, but I prefer having them on...
