Many of you know my dad, well yesterday he had dropped his car off for service, the service manager called him later that day and asked if he had sent anyone to pick his car up and he said no, well sir than it looks like your car has been stolen. 2 guys walked in to the service area got in the car and drove it right out of the service bay and no one stopped them. I just could not belive it when he told me they drove it out of the shop and people saw them but would not stop them or even ask what they are up to. I do not know many dealers that let people walk thru the shop with out an employee as a escort much less let you drive the car in or out of the service bay again with out an escort. If anyone has a High miler or sees one for sale please let me know as he wants to replace the Kat but wants a cheaper one so he can do a lot of custom work.

Bob - That's terrible. I wonder what they intend to do with it. It's not like they can hide the car if they drive it. Does the dealership intend to take any responsibilty?

That's excellent news. Once insurance pays you for the Prowler you can get a brand new one and then still pocket some cash.

Like the Prowler aren't high profile cars. I am sure someone knows something, a Kat can't be easily hidden. Good luck man! I hope they get the scum bags.

I would be pissed! I can not believe a service department would allow this! I know ours keeps the keys inside the office after the vehicle is finished, not in the car.

I hope the police find whoever did this!

That is just not right.... I told you what happened to our Trans Am right? For everyone else heres my story:
We were getting ready to sell our 00' WS6 T/A.. I took it to the dealer for a few little things to be fixed before I put an ad up. Well they needed to keep the car for the weekend for a part coming in.... long story short they call me at 4pm on Mon to tell me that over the weekend while locked up in there barbwired fenced lot, the hood was stolen. Needless to say I was pissed... well then they have the goll to say I better call my insurance company to send a rep... I told them off and said they better fix it. The general manager said that it wasnt their fault as they had it in a safe spot and they did their best to protect it.... Well I'm not going to get into more detail as we are currently taking them to court. And while this is going on... the car sits with no hood in the garage.... what BS

These dealers are so irresponsible... It's just to bad.
I wish your father the best with it, I would think it is clear cut their fault. It's just terrible.

Quit posting these horrible stories while my car has been sitting for almost a month three states away at a Speed Shop. It's bad enough that things like stolen cars and stolen hoods happen, buit it's even worse when the dealerships don't want to accept any responsibility.

Frank - I hope you responded to the dealer that obviously it was NOT a safe spot and their "best" certainly was n ot adequate in this case!

I do not know the dealer name but will find out, it is in California, the car was in the service bay were they work on it in a stall and a White & Black guy in suit's just walked thru like they owned the place got in it backed it out and drove away, a mechanic was working on a car in the next stall and watched the whole thing happen.

Well that blows my 'no one will steal my Kat cause it is so obviously different and couldn't get by with it theory', Bob I am outraged at your Fathers loss. I subscribe to the old horse thief justice. Hang 'em! Car thieves, car jackers and vandalizers, one rope. I guess there were no survelince cameras or Low Jack. I hope the insurance will take care of everything. I have had a motorcycle (caught the guy ) and card parts stolen its a rotten experience. I really hope this story has a favorable ending Good Luck!!

Bob, several things jump out. TWO guys to steal a car. I can see two guys to drive the getaway car and the stolen car but not two guys in the stolen car. Secondly, if it was stolen to fill an order, how did they know the cat would be there? There may be someone at the dealership in on this at some level. The cat parts are worth a whole lot more than the car as a whole.
I hope all POA members will be extra vigilant in looking for parts showing up. That is a lot of eyes to keep a look out for something fishy.
Hopefully it will have a happy ending.

sounds like its goin in a uhaul 24footer probably to be shipped to saddam overseas in syria as you probably already know he lost two of those in the war just recently., id contact the major shipping ports and let them know or definitely at the least have the dealer pay for it, they have insurance specifically for stuff like that. , if a kid was kidnapped at a daycare center the daycare would be responsible . get a new pair of vice grips so youll have something to pull the balls off the scumbag thief when he is caught.....

Car can be retitled with serial number of a wrecked one.
Or taken overseas in a container on a tanker.

Doubt it would be parted out. Car thieves part out mass produced cars where they have tons of folks that want the parts (ie. Camaro, Firebird, Camry, etc.) Don't really think a Prowler would fall in that category. Besides, most still under warranty.

As far as the dealership, when I took mine in for a minor touch up, when I came to get it, the car was sitting next to the drop off spot with the keys on the dash. Anyone could have taken it.

My Dad knows he will never see the car again so we are looking for another one already, and knowing my dad this one will me more outrageous the the Candy Red car he did a couple of years ago. The only thing I think he is mad about is how the dealership could let this happen in the shop with someone watching it happen only 20 feet away. Reminds me of the new movie version of "Gone in 60 seconds".

When our Prowler was in recently for the recall, upon arrival to pick up the vehicle, I found two individuals, non-employees of the dealership, sitting in our Prowler. Needless to say, the verbal exchange that followed was not a pleasant one. I got the impression from dealership employees that witnessed that exchange that they couldn't understand why I would be upset with two strangers sitting in our Prowler which we use almost exclusively for show purposes. Good luck to your father. I hope everything works out for him. PGD
