Funny thing on this subject a few years ago I went to a Porsche Dealership and walked in the showroom and said I would like to test drive one before I purchased it. The salesman just tossed me the keys and said "here". I drove it off and went anywhere and did anything I wanted to do, to test it. He didn't know my name or anything about me. I was flabbergasted that they didn't come with me or at least get my name. I just figured if it doesn't come back the insurance will replace it or I looked very honest I don't know. They get rid of a car, which is about as good as selling it, I guess. |

YF... don't believe everything you read in the papers... it is extremely hard to get any vehicle off a US dock today without the right papers. US Customs agents inspect each vehicle for papers and numbers before they leave... I know this, I sell Harleys to people who export around the world daily. What used to happen regularly, does not anymore. Years ago, you didn't even need a title to ship anything anywhere. Also, Mexico has cracked down, US customs is taking this more seriously then drugs... you simply cannot take a vehicle into Mexico anymore. I highly doubt Bob's dad's car has left the US, unless it was on a Private Plane. |

quote: Your assumption is they are doing this legally as you are and telling customs they are exporting cars. If customs doesn't open and inspect each and every one of the millions of containers leaving daily, they could tell them it was full of Pampers (or some other product with no serial number or VIN. It's the same with drugs. Drugs are illegal and Customs, DEA, local authorities, Border Patrol, etc. are all looking to stop this flow. Yet, with all those agencies, more gets in then is ever caught. 20/20 did an expose' on car trafficing a year or two ago. I think it was in California where an SUV got stolen. I forgot how but, they figured it would end up in Belieze and went down there. The local polica chief was driving them around looking for it in his polica SUV. While the police chief was gone, they ran the VIn on the police SUV and it too was a stolen vehicle. |

Sorry!!!That really sucks!!!Good luck with the dealer. Insurance companies rarely give you what a cars is worth. It would have been better if the car fell off the lift at least they would have had to fix it. Its a shame, but i'll bet you anything these guys just didn't stop by spur of the moment and happen to spot a Prowler???? I'd look into the workers police backgrounds! ------------------ |

What a worthless dealer! I checked with my dealer today when I took my Prowler in. They keep them in the garage locked until you pick it up. The key is kept in the office when not being worked on. The service writer even locked it while she was checking it in and it was only 20 feet away from her while waiting for it to be taken into the garage! If it is kept overnight it is in the garage! They are the largest dealer in Kentucky and seem to care about performance cars. Their Vipers are always inside and protected in the show room. |

What a shame ... Is the insurance company going to take any legal action against the dealership? ------------------ |
