I wanted to share some pictures of a trailer project I've been working on for the past four or five weeks. Realizing very quickly that the Prowler is lacking in the "storage space" department, I decided it would be nice to have a small trailer. I really like the OEM Prowler trailer but I wanted to do something a bit different. Since I'm an "incurable Coca-Cola collector" I can't ever pass up a bargain, like the crusty 1950's Coca-Cola cooler I bought for $50 and hauled home about 12 years ago with my wife saying: "What are you going to do with it?".....to which I have a standard answer: "One day I'll make something out of it".....well that day has arrived! I know I'm not the first one to come up with the idea of using an old Coca-Cola cooler for a trailer but I'm definitely making mine a bit different than the others I've ever seen. I built the frame to be completely hidden by the cooler and set the ride height at 6 inches to compliment the low stance of the Prowler. As you can see in the pictures, I'm using 17" Prowler wheels and tires to give the trailer that "wide" look and so the wheels match the car too. I had to have billet spacers made for the hubs to allow the center caps to clear the bearing carriers, pretty extreme trailer wheels! It'll even be painted "Prowler" red instead of "Coca-Cola" red, the two "reds" are pretty darn close. I'm hoping to have it done by the Turkey Run in Daytona so I can have the utility space to haul some ice cold Cokes in with me....what else would you haul? Ok, a couple chairs and some other essentials too. I want to leave my car pretty much "stock", so this is a way to personalize my car without altering it. The only mod done to my car is red “Shimmers” on the rear bumperettes which really compliment the car. I'll post more pictures when I get it done. I mocked it up behind the car and it looks very cool! I better get back to work or I'm not going to get it done in time! Bill Almost forgot, the vanity tag: COKE2GO ------------------ |

Bill VERY COOL Looks like you also know a thing or two about welding The only thing I would try and change would be to use Prowler tail lights in it. But that would mean to change the fenders for more clearance and a little longer on the back. Heck I might have to cruise thru Daytona.....where is everyone staying? ------------------ |

Bill -- Looks great. The curve of the fenders helps to balance the boxiness of the cooler. Great idea to place a step in front of the cooler for extra carrying capacity. Please share pics when you finish the project. Jim B. |

Larry/Jim: I'm a die-hard “do-it-yourselfer” and I love projects like this one! I do all my own paint and body too, it's a combination of being too cheap to let someone else do it for me and the gratification that comes with figuring something out. I thought about using Prowler taillights but after toying around with different options I decided to go with the more traditional round style. Mocked up with the car it's a neat balance of hi-tech and old tech and the basic form still follows the Prowler very well. The wide, low "track" looks very natural with the car. The suspension I used is so cool, it's a very compact "lever" type assembly that eliminates the need for any springs or shocks. I was told they are used horse trailers because of the great ride quality. I matched the weight of the trailer up to the specification of the axles so it wouldn't be too "bouncey". I live about 40 minutes from Daytona so I'll commute, so I'm not sure if there is a certain hotel where most Prowler owners are staying. Come on down, we can find you a place to stay. More pictures as I make progress and thanks for all the kind words! Bill ------------------ |

Bill: Ken and I are avid Coke collectors and that was what we had thought about several times to do for our trailer. Just haven't had the time to do it. I've been looking for a good ice chest, but so far haven't found one close enough to home. It will look better with your red kat probably than with our silver. Looks great - show some pics when you get it done. Tami |

Bill - Great idea and project going on there. I hate to date myself, but I remember moving those C-Cola coolers many years ago and they were extremely heavy. I can see the compressor guts are gone, but what does that box weigh alone? BTW - make my Coke a Diet one (silver cans) ------------------

Looks great. And you will appreciate the extra space on trips. Of course you could always use it as a cooler, too! Happy Prowling Marty ------------------ Driving my Dream |
