I'm sad to say that I have made no progress except for picking up a few 3.5 running engines and that is about it... I am however in the process of helping another Prowler friend in repairing his engine and hope to be done with it shortly and then test it in my car before I ship it back to him... I think my biggest set back has been at my normal Job that I'm happy to have.. They had to let go my helper as it was his second No Call No Show so now I have been doing 2 JOBS instead of just my own since November.. Leaving me burnt out when I get home and the cold Colorado weather hasn't helped any either... I'm glad to have my normal job but it's been very ruff on my old body to take on the challenge of doing both mine and my fired co-workers, but I have been doing it.. I have put everything on hold as of right now till the stuff I have going on right now is completed.. The 5.0 thing could change at anytime with the hiring of a helper for me at work and if it does I will jump right back into performing the 5.0 builds but only after completing the stuff that I have in the works.. I have had lots of interest in the Killer Stroker Engines and my good friend Jerry the Mayor will be the first one to be done as he was first to step up and buy a complete builder 3.5 for $1,000 and I have it along with 3 other engines in my garage.. When I finish up on the extra unexpected Prowler work that I have taken on, I will be hard at it no matter what the weather is or if I have a helper at my normal job or not.. Thanks again for all the interest in the 5.0's as there has been 5 serious players right now... I do not take any money up front on these 5.0 stroker engines unless it is to buy parts needed to do them.. Thanks again for all the interest.. John(onecatnodog) |

Sorry to hear about your work load. Glad that you have a job. It's been a long winter. Hopefully things will look up in the spring. The important thing is communications. Thanks for keeping us informed. Please let us know periodically as you work through your back log. |

Hang in there John. You have taken on an extremely important role. You are providing the perfect "plug & play" solution for the Prowler. I have had my 5.0 for 65,000 miles now, and I have never regretted the decision. It has tremendous power, and with a good exhaust system it sounds formidable. (and, it is too...) The beauty of it is that it "is" pretty much plug & play. Everything you have - guages, air conditioning, power steering, tranny, etc., etc. - works. There are no other changes to a stock Prowler that need to be made. Any other serious power increase would most likely be to a V-8. LET THE MODIFICATIONS BEGIN! Anyone who has done this - or even attempted it - will tell you it is the exact opposite of plug & play. Almost everything has to be modified, and the car is changed forever. The few who make this upgrade probably do not, for the most part, drive their car in normal conditions. They are show cars, or hot rods, or whatever, and they are beautiful, awesome and unique. But, they are not for everyone. For someone like me who drives the Cat every day I can, I need dependability along with the awesome driving experience that the 5.0 adds to the coolest car in the world - the Prowler. I got that dependability with my 5.0. I would take it anywhere. You are right John - many Cats are getting old, and this 5.0 transformation is just like getting a brand new car. Stay with it John! It will get better... |

Here is some more on the 5.0's... All the pistons are special made and I have been waiting on these babys for close to 2 months, and it's not even racing season... They are nice and like I said they are special made for the 5.0's and are not something that are on the shelf when you order them... Just like the pistons, the head gaskets are also very special.. They are heat treated and very thick allowing the pistons to come up out of the bore to get the engine to the 5.0 size.. The Head Gaskets are close to $500.00 a set and all engines I do will come with a extra set.. You can tell from the block if you have ever seen a stock 3.5 with it's heads off that the 5.0 has a MAJOR BORE increase and has steal sleeves pressed in as the block.. The block has to be heated to get them pressed into place.. The 6 sleeves are around $1,300 and it costs around $1,500 to have them installed with all the trimming that is done to make them fit then the block is decked for a nice smooth surface... The block and heads are O ringed to give them a great seal.. You can see in this picture the O rings... As you can see that these engines are WAY TRICK, ALL QUALITY, and that makes them cost some money... The great thing is that they are a bolt in and you keep your original numbers matching engine... The other great thing is that the engine will be built before the car shows up and will make for a quick turn around to get your car back to you... Like I said, I have put this project on hold till I finish what I have going on right now and then Jerry's will be first in line as some work has already been done on his.. He was the first to step up and buy a builder engine and I know Jerry and he has expressed interest for quit some time now.. I have had lots of interest in my work and the 5.0 and hope to do a few of these a year... |

What does something like this cost? 5, 10, 15, 20 thousand? |

I'm trying to keep it in the 15,000 to 18,000 range... The more I do the better price on can get on not only parts but on machine work... I ordered and have 10 sets of head gaskets to get started and they are all custom made for the 5.0 engines.. My next mass order will be the rods, then the pistons... The cranks are done here in Colorado at Colorado Crankshaft.. Thanks for your interest and questions... John(onecatnodog) |

Hey John... wondering about some details of your project... will you be building the 5.0 with the same components that Dean used in his builds ? I have to collect up all the info I can if I am going to do anything on the performance end for next winter... Thanks, Jim |

Same Pistons, Rings, Rods, Cyl. Sleeves, and Bearings.. The Head Gaskets have been improved and the engines will be O ringed on the Block and Cyl. Head sides.. Same Modified Crank but will have a Key Way in the Balancer.. Since I will be using a donor engine and you will be keeping your factory number matching one the new engine will have a new water pump, oil pump, timing belt along with a new idler.. Most, if not all of Deans engines that were built were from such low mile cars that none of that was needed to be replaced except for the timing belts.. The last one I did I made sure that the belt and pump was changed on Terry's car.. Thanks for your interest in the 5.0.... onecatnodog |

Hey Johm reading about your building 5.0 litre engines is really exciting (even if your current workload has put it on hold) What will y7ou be doing about heads, cams and tuning the ECU? |

Right now Marty I will be trying to not only make them look stock when the hood is raised but get them to pass the emission test so they will be 50 state legal.. We do have some cars out there with the 5.0 that have a piggy back computer tied in.. One Prowler with ported and polished heads and larger valves with killer valve springs and different cams along with larger injectors but that car is pushing 18 lbs of boost and doesn't even have cats on it and his state has no emissions test required so it's not a issue there.. I have a Cali E test print out that Scott99 was nice enough to send me and it has the numbers I need to be at. I think Cali will be the hardest state out there.. I will be using the stock cam's with a performance valve job on the rebuilt "O" ringed heads.. The Prowler has a 4 valve per cyl. lay out and they just love the more cubes... The addition of a Walbro SRT 4 Turbo fuel pump is a must to feed the more cubes and the factory computer with all of it's sensors has done just fine on factory plemium cars.. Thanks for your interest in the 5.0 onecatnodog |

myself I am not concerned with emmissions, we don't have the test and my cats are off, removed when I put on the long tube headers... Is there an upgrade for the tranny to handle the increased HP ? |

I really don't know anything about how many were built, someone told me 10, not sure if that is true... I'm just saying I heard Dean did 10... you probably know more than I do... if you have anything to add please do...

quote: Okay, from what I know, EdsCat was number 10 with his Black Prowler. Dean took my Prowler when he delivered Ed his. Mine was, from my understanding, number 11. The problem I have is that I can't name the first nine, if there were nine before Ed's. This message has been edited by Terry on 03-31-2013 at 01:02 PM |

From what I know Number 10 is the fastest 5.0 Dean ever built. From Number 11 on they were significantly slower... |
