I have got started on my Pearl White Kat project. Going to keep you updated on it as things progress. I look for this to take me a while because it is only me working on it in my spare time. This set of pictures covers the "blacking out" part of the job. Still not sure on the shade of the base coat or pearl. Going to paint some test panels in a few days to try and get the color I want. As I get more done I will add pictures to this thread. This message has been edited by Piddler on 03-04-2007 at 10:40 AM |

It looked a lot better the day i drove it than it does now.......LOL Did you find any unexpected damage once you got the front end off of it? I understand the picking the right shade of paint. I like the Pearl white I used on my Dart but wish I would have had extra flake put in it. It is a factory chrysler 1999 pearl white off a Town & Country mini van (I think it is paint code PPW) I thought the diamond white off the GM models would look good but then it had more gold than I liked, but bigger metallic flake. I think Lexus has a nice pearl white. Then again check out House of Color and see how many Pearl Whites they have. Good Luck on getting this project done You could go with a spectra flair to really make it POP ------------------ |

Hello again Wildcat, Thanks again for your help. The car was just like you said it was. I am putting a new side panel and headlight on it. I have all my extra parts, Tom Mills rear pan for bumpers, TGF front spoiler, Gary's front bumper remove kit, chrome ring to go around the shifter, chrome knob and a few other things. I got in on the hard top order, hope to have it in about 6 weeks. You were right about the performance of the car, this thing will spin a tire and get gone. I had a good trip back from Indy, 60 to 90 all the way. It was interstate all the way back, I checked to see what kind of miles per gallon it was getting at these speeds, 25+ MPG, not bad at all. The car drove good but when I changed lanes, it wanted to wonder. That brought me to my buddy's front end shop the next day. He did his magic on it, all is well now. I was just going to pull the nose off and repaint it, by the time I got that far down, I started fixing the nose and looking at the car, thinking, yes-no, yes-no-yes. I sit the nose off to the side, told myself, JUST GO ON AND DO IT! That is why it looks different now than it did last time you saw it. I spent the evening at the car dealers yesterday telling the car salesman I wanted to see there pearl white cars and trucks. Unless I do a custom mix, the White Diamond pearl on the 2007 Escalade is going to be the color. The second choice is the 07 Ford Expedition, White Sand Tri-Coat Metallic. But still looking. ------------------ |

I think you should paint around the fuel fill in the pearl white. |

I got the paint today, White Diamond Pearl in PPG best paint, code 98 or PPG no 5851/2. I made a change in the pearl coat, used a larger flake in place of the PRL95, used X2 and the PRL 93, used X3. The flake is about 30 to 40% larger. This job will be a 4 part paint job. 1 sealer-surfacer 2 base coat 3 pearl coat 4 clear coat As you can see, this stuff is high, I hope to have enough to paint my other gokart white, when this project is done. Saturday or Sunday I will paint a test panel to see if the color is what I'm looking for. I had hoped for one of them $99.95 paint jobs, don't look like that is going to happen. |

Finished product? Sorry for the confusion. This is a rendering by Dan Pena of what a pearl prowler could look like. If Piddlers' project turns out anywhere close he wiill have a very nice looking kat. Courtesy of Dan Pena This message has been edited by kat hunter on 11-26-2006 at 08:53 AM |

Started taking some of the parts apart tonight. There was a post a while back about taking the rubber pads off the rear fenders. Let me tell you, its a pain. I don't think it can be done without messing up the paint under them. They are on there with double side tape. It takes a heat gun and a puddy knife to get them off. Now your just 10% done. The hard part is to get the leftover tape off the fender. I used all kind of stuff trying to get it off, some of the stuff eat the paint up and the tape was still on the fender. When I was taking the door panel off, I broke BOTH the plastic things around the door handle. The part on the trunk lid that the top pins go through was a bugger to get off also, think they were double super glued down. Alley Cat I tried to get you a picture of the top of the gas tank, but what you wanted to see is in a tight place. This is the best I could get. |

Steve, the picture that Kat Hunter posted is what I want it to look like. I think someone took a picture of a different color kat and put it in a program on the computer and changed the color to a pearl white. That is my target to build a real one like it, but I got a long way to go yet. This message has been edited by Piddler on 11-15-2006 at 12:01 AM |
