I asked a friend who is semi-retired to make these billet, unpolished covers for me for a little different look, and was just wondering if anyone might be interested in a set. They are for the oil fill, oil dipstick, power steering fluid and brake fluid reservoir. He’s not sure if he would want to do anymore sets as he doesn’t want to have to take on a big commitment but since he already has the programs, jigs and tools I asked him if it would be okay to see what, if any, interest there might be. The price is a little high but it took 3 days to produce my set and he figures he might be able to make 1-2 sets a day now that he has it down. He figures the price would have to be somewhere between 300.00 400.00 per set plus shipping. He’s not interested in handling the phone calls, packaging and shipping but I told him I would handle it on a one time order or one order every couple of months. If you have any interest please respond by either posting or email. If there is enough interest by the end of January I’ll see what he can do on the price. The caps fit very snug over the original, but I suggest using a little high-temp silicone to attach them so they can’t vibrate off. The oil stick requires you to remove the pin and reinstall it into the billet one. The dipstick has a key in it which will only fit one way into the plastic and the new billet handle. ------------------ |

Hey Todd, how ya been? He thinks 300.00 to 400.00 at this point. He said if there is interest he will spend a couple of days making them up and see if it takes him as long as he thinks it will. Course I'll be paying for mine for a few months by treating him and his wife to dinners (many)at Del Frisco's steak house. He builds and races Harleys and is currently building a new AHDRA Street Pro class bike in his shop for next year. 140 cu and 200hp. ------------------ This message has been edited by Marc-Colo-99 on 12-16-2003 at 09:01 PM |

Marc. I bought a set of covers from Ecklers for the C5 Corvette and used them on the Prowler. They don't fit perfectly on the Prowler so I used foam adhesive tape around the insides of covers and that has held up on my road test for four months... They came in a set of five for the COrvette. I was only able to use three on the Prowler (oil cap, power steering & Brake fluid)... Here's a pic...
For the dip stick, a friend made me one with a "Christmas Tree" from the Drag strip... He used little stones for the lights... Pretty cool. I only use it for display... ------------------ |

Laddie, I saw those but wanted something more custom and with the look of billet to go with the manifold. When I asked my friend about doing them in billet I don't think he thought it would be as big of job as it was but he is waiting for his new motor for his dragbike and was looking for something to keep him busy. These fit very snug and look great. I really never thought about any more than my set but my buddy said since he had to make 3 jigs and write 3 programs to ask if anyone else might be interested. Now that he has all of that he thinks it'll take 1-2 hours/piece if he were to cut, turn on the lathe and mill several sets at a time. If they were to go quickier he said he adjust price accordingly. Wild thing, I doubt it but I can ask. ------------------ This message has been edited by Marc-Colo-99 on 12-17-2003 at 05:38 PM |

It's actually nice for once in a while a super trick part on a Viper is way cheaper and nicer than a Prowler product, the Prowler parts seems a little pricey to me. http://www.mgwltd.com/viper_oil_caps_srt.html Just One Mans Opinion |

Rich. It may have been that one. That had four pieces.. They are chrome. I thought I had five pieces which would have been this kit... However, I can only find the four pieces. So, it may be the one in your link. It's been four years since I bought these... |

Gar & Wayne - In my opinion, if these covers are as good as MGW's hitch covers they have got to be first quality. ------------------ |

Marc, been really busy all summer and spring with work, finally got some self time to even check out the site again. How have you been? Those caps are nice, but a bit pricey for me. Remember, I'd have to order 5 of them. OUCH. Gary, thanks for mentioning the Viper ones, nice stuff. Marc, maybe your guy would invest in a run of 100 caps and lower the pricing. Once he has the jig and program... the rest is easy. ------------------ |

Does the PT cruiser AC knobs fit the prowler? I like the Cigarette lighter with eject on it! Door handles aren't bad or dipstick. A lot of nice ford lightning truck stuff to. Have the guy run some prowler stuff it should sell no problem here. ------------------ |

Those caps certainly look great, but $300 or $400 seems a little ridiculous regardless of the quality or time required. My MGW oil cap for the Viper cost me $35. Several years ago (March 2000)I ordered brushed aluminum caps for the power steering, brake reservoir, and radiator from Hi-Tech Aluminum Products in Cedartown, Georgia (770 748 4955, don't know if they are still in business). These caps are still on my '99 Dakota R/T. The total cost for all three caps with shipping was $41.59. No they are not billet aluminum, but alot more pop for the buck. Bill |

I was wondering. The Prowler is a parts bin built vehicle. From what vehicle were the power steering, oil fill etc borrowed from? Likely the 300M. I think I will do a search for these dress up caps for the 300M to see if anyone make them. There is a 300M club. |

The guy that made mine is retired and builds motorcycles as a hobby and just happens to have a shop full of machine tools. He took the project on for fun and as a favor. I doubt he'd want to take the time to do more than a handful to find out how long it'd take but I'll suggest it so we can get a better idea of how much he would need. If he were able to get it down in the 2-250 range maybe it'd be worth it. Can't figure out how the Viper ones are done for that price but after watching them made that's a great price. Maybe someone can get MGW to look at doing them. ------------------ |
