I'm figuring he already has the jig and program needed... that means a C n C machine, IE computer. All he needs now is around $200 worth of aluminum stock, and put it in and let her rip. If he ran 100 sets, easy to sell. He could make money even charging $50 a set. At $50 a set, he'd probably end up selling around 300-500 sets within a couple years. So, at $50 a set he is going to make around $4800 per one hundred sets sold. Obviously the cost of shipping is billed to the customer. The bigger problem is he has to have the time to ship them. But, selling say, 500 sets, a reasonable number over 2 years, will make him close to $25,000!

Sounds like it should be easy Todd. After watching what it takes to make these let me tell you its nowhere near that simple. First the pieces are cut on a lathe, and in the case of the dipstick it is turned on the lathe, then put on the mill where the rectangular top is cut, then the groove for the factory dipstick is drilled at 2 different levels to accommodate the keyed end and then the hole for the keeper pin is drilled.
With the round covers it takes almost as many steps.
After cutting them on the lathe, two to three different bits are used for the machining (depending on the piece)and these have to be changed out manually.
I will pass on all of the posts and let him decide if he’s interested in proceeding. If not maybe someone else will be able to come up with a shop willing to do these at minimal cost. In any event I've got my set and I've got to take my best friend and his wife out for a steak dinner.
If you are able to find someone willing to do them for 50.00/set I think you’re right you could sell a couple hundred sets.
