The first regional event for the Prowler Owners Association will begin on the Colorado River in Laughlin, Nevada at the Riverside Resort Hotel and Casino http://www.riversideresort.com/html/ on November 2, 2000 and end at the 500 hundred beautiful acres of the Little America Resort Hotel http://www.littleamerica.com/flagstaff/ in Flagstaff, Arizona on November 5, 2000. The following people have confirmed for the “Grand Canyon Tour 2000” Jerry and Marcia Scholten (MI) (DC Tech Advisor)(#2 thru #10) (paid) 1. Hospitality Suite in Room 999 at the Riverside Hotel in Laughlin opens Thursday at Noon and will be open until midnight. Don't forget that I need all Black Bart's Dinners and T-shirts paid for by October 15, 2000. Be sure to include t-shirt sizes and your dinner preference with your order. Please mail your checks for the dinner and T-shirts ASAP to help me get things going. Dinner is $25.00 per person and the "Grand Canyon Tour 2000" collectors T-shirts are $20.00 each. Arrive in Laughlin http://www.riversideresort.com/map/index.htmlanytime on Thursday 11/2 for a day of gambling, shopping, bowling, hiking, water sports, riverboat rides and a museum tour of the 70 cars in Don Laughlin's collection. Check into the Riverside Resort Hotel and Casino anytime after 1:00 PM. Be sure to stop at the POA Hospitality Suite in room 999 to meet new friends and pick up your POA Goodie Bag. A room rate of $25.00 for river view rooms or a $19.00 rate for standard rooms or $35.00 for suites has been arranged. Don't forget to purchase your tickets for the Everly Brothers Concert in the Celebrity Showroom for Thursday evening at 7:00 PM. Ask for seating as close to row #3, table b & c when you reserve. Friday 11/3 at 8:00 AM we will depart the Riverside Resort and head for the ghost town of Oatman, Arizona. http://www.route66usa.com/arizona.html Bring some goodies to feed the many tame burros that wander freely about the town. The burros were left over from the gold rush days and now are somewhat of a tourist attraction. Plan on taking comfortable shoes and if you wish, we will take a tour of a real working gold mine near Oatman. Saturday 11/4 will again depart at 8:00 AM, this time from Flagstaff via Highway 89 north, about 100 miles to the Grand Canyon. http://www.nps.gov/grca/ Plan on spending quite some time at the Grand Canyon and having lunch before returning to your car for a trip back to Flagstaff via Highway 180. Dinner at 6:00 PM is planned at Black Bart’s Steakhouse in Flagstaff (just across the street from Little America) for Saturday evening. Black Bart’s has been highly recommended as the servers are mostly students at NSU and perform a musical revue every 30 minutes or so during your dinner. You will offered a choice of 4 different menu items (Prime Rib (12 oz), Broiled Salmon, Broiled Chicken or a 1/2 Rack of BBQ Ribs) the cost of this dinner is $25.00 per person and you must pre-pay. Be sure to give me your choice entrees when you send me your check. After dinner we will cross the street back to the Little America Resort for a Scavenger Hunt Awards Ceremony in the lounge. Sunday 11/5 at 8:00 AM I am planning to return to California by way of Sedona, Cottonwood, Jerome and Prescott and I hope to have many of the Arizona Gang follow us for this half day event before they head south on their way back to the Phoenix area. We will have lunch at the Golden Corral in Prescott at about Noon til 1:00 PM. For the people returning to Northern California and Nevada, it would make a nice beginning to your trip to also follow along to Prescott before turning north on Highway 89 to connect with Highway 40 near Williams for your westbound trip home. After departing Prescott I will continue on Highway 89 to Wickenburg and then on via Highway 60 to connect with westbound Highway 10 near Quartzsite. The Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA Show) is in Las Vegas October 31 - November 3, 2000. http://www.aaiwshow.com/ There are NASCAR Races in Phoenix at PIR on 11/4 & 11/5 http://www.desertstarclassic.com/schedule.shtml if you are interested in attending. A few people will undoubtedly depart Flagstaff and make a quick run to PIR for the races. Let me know if you are interested and I will get you in touch and help you make the needed arrangements. Please take some time off to join us for this once in a lifetime event. You can very easily make a long week of car events if you are a hardcore car addict. The weather in Flagstaff is pretty cool at this time of year. Be sure to bring some warm clothes and jackets. http://weather.yahoo.com/almanac/Flagstaff_AZ_US_f_10.html A few quick notes to make sure that everyone understands what is included and not included in this event..... If you are ordering T-shirts, be sure to include the sizes. Julie is flying into Las Vegas on Thursday 11/2 at 2:35 PM on Southwest Airlines flight #1314. I will pick her up at the Las Vegas airport and then we will depart for our drive to Laughlin. The drive to Laughlin from Vegas is less than 2 hours. Add another couple of hours if you want to take a tour of Hoover Dam at Lake Mead. My visit to the SEMA Show will be a quick one beginning at the 10:00 AM opening time on Thursday morning before I pick Julie up. I am planning on departing Vegas at about 3:30 PM.

PURE GOLD During our Route 66 Tour we will be touring a working gold mine near Oatman Arizona that is temporaroly idle until the price of gold once again rises above $300.00 per ounce. Word has it that if the price of gold heads north, as the stockmarket heads south, they just may start mining the yellow metal as soon as the last hardhat is returned by the last Prowler Owner to leave the mine on Friday, Nov. 3, 2000. The Gold Road Mine was discovered in 1900 by a Mexican prospector and has been in operation off and on for the last 100 years. As recently as the end of 1998 it was producing gold at a rate of 40,000 ounces per year. We will park our Prowlers in the lot of the Gold Road Gold Mine which is adjacent to Route 66. We will then board the mining rigs for our ride to the mouth of the mine. This exciting and informative tour directly UNDER Route 66 will last one hour. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Larry Lord (edited 10-19-2000).] |

The perfect end to a glorious trip would be to throw a great Zaino wax job on a cool new Carlini Trans cover listening to the dull but thrilling sound of souvenier gold nuggets rattling in my pocket! I'm starting to understand what drove the Donner party! [This message has been edited by MIKE GATLIN (edited 10-19-2000).] |

Here's the BIG, BIG, BIG news! Our Prowler Technical Advisor Jerry Scholten and his wife Marcia will be driving the NEW Orange Pearl Coat Prowler while attending the Grand Canyon Tour 2000 with us. There will be a technical question and answer session for both mornings of 11/3 and 11/4 in the Prowler parking area from 7:00 until 8:00 AM before we start our planned events for the day. We will also have a tech talk session at the Scavenger Hunt awards ceremony on Saturday night from 8:00 until 10:00 PM in the lounge of the Little America Hotel. Start making a list of any questions or problems that you wish to discuss. It's not very often that you get the chance to actually talk to an engineer face to face.

Marc Scarbeary of Colorado sent me an e-mail today stating that he is trying very hard to make the trip. Marc won't know for sure until next week though.
The prizes are very expensive ones so don't expect this to be easy. First Prize: Carlini Chrome Trans Cooler Cover There is no entry fee for the Scavenger Hunt and everyone is welcome to participate. |
