WELCOME

We are very pleased that you chose to join us for the first regional tour of the Prowler Owners Association over Route 66  and to the Grand Canyon.

You’re going to have fun over the next 3 days.  We are going to cruise some very scenic places and have a wonderful time while doing so.  So have your gas tanks full and we’ll be ready to roll at 8:00 a.m. sharp, Friday morning.

While we’re cruising Route 66, we will pretty much have the old road to ourselves.  It will be easy to stick together if we wish. It will also be easy for you to join back up with us fun lovin’ prowlers should you decide to paw for curios along the way.

But to do so, you’ll need to take a few minutes this evening to review these pages.  That’s because there are several twists and turns along our route that are not marked by any road signs.  So you’ll need to follow closely the pages entitled:  CRUISIN’ TIPS FOR 66.

And especially so for the first 16 miles from our hotel to the Oatman turn off.   Many a soul has missed this turn.  Also read about the right turn we need to make on

Shine-a-rump road,  between the Gold Mine and Kingman.

We’ve included maps too.  But use the maps just as a back-up.   These maps are good for an overview but they lack important detail that you’ll need to keep you on the mother road.

The sheet entitled  Poker Run,  tells you who and where to draw your card.  By the way, we hope you win.  It also gives you phone numbers in case you get off course.  You’ll be able to call the next town and get instructions on how to catch up with us.  Please do a little business with our friends along the old road.  They’ll ship anything that you purchase directly to your home for a reasonable charge.  Remember, Route 66 is one of the all-time come back stories.  Preservationists and merchants all along the old highway have dreamed of revival. And now road fans like the POA, help make those dreams come true.

The following pages have made it clear that we are want to keep you off the Interstate.  (#40).   You will pass many big signs that will try to seduce you on it.   The Interstate is not for  unordinary  folks like us.  Rather it’s for people in a hurry… whose palates are accustomed to homogenized food and drink.  It’s for those people that prefer the predictable and shy away from anything that hints of old-fashioned fun.

Route 66 is for us…we who prefer to sample chili from a stranger’s pot… or tackle a burger platter that requires at least a dozen napkins to clean the hands and chin.  Let’s put it this way:  It’s for Prowler Owners Association kind of people-- who find time together, holy.  It’s an experience.  It’s our destination in itself—far more important than any arrival.  By driving Route 66 with POA on Friday, and visiting the truly wonderful people to be found along the way, you’ll become part of the spirit and legacy of Route 66 across America.  Enjoy every curve and every long, die-cut straight.  Recreate for yourself the sweetness of a time gone by.  Rediscover —The Main Street of America.

One last word:   You’ll note that  we decided to include our hand written file notes for this tour. They’re in rough form, to be certain.  But we thought they might be useful so we tossed them in.

Again, Welcome.  And thank you for touring with us this weekend.
