I have had several people ask if I would do the pump change for them if they send them to me with the new pump.. Sure I will! Here is the info to get the Turbo SRT Neon Pump.. Had the new pump shipped to my house for under $135.00 that includes the pump and fuel filter with shipping.. The push pins that have to be changed on the end of the new pump were under $7.00... You might pick up a new tank top O ring also.. I was able to re use my old one.. John(onecatnodog)Collins Auto Performance Engineering

Hey John,

I keep copies of the helpful tech. posts and advise, in a Prowler file in "my documents". I have referred too, and used, this information several times in the last two and a half years. I just wanted to say thanks, to you and the other guys who consistently contribute their knowledge and expertise to this site. I really appreciate it. Great instructions and pics of the fuel pump fix. Good job!!!

No Problem Larry and Bonnie.. I think that all the members here on this great site just want to see the Prowlers coming to events and not broke down or un fun to drive because of problems with there Prowlers... Just my opinion, as that is the way I feel! John(onecatnodog)Collins

I have a 97, which uses a different stock fuel pump than the rest of the years. As of about 2 weeks ago there were only 6 left in the US in stock for my 97 (soon to be 5). I doubt more will be made, and at the rate I'm going, I'll burn thru them in no time. Does anyone know if the Neon pump will work in the 97's?

I'm not sure what you are looking for. I have several pics and can take others of the old one as needed. This is the first replacement before installing. (I'm on my 3rd going to my 4th.) If you need a different angle or something specific let me know.

That is the pump housing and the pump is inside of the plastic shuttle... That is what I need a picture of.. You have 3 of these you say... They are complete like the one in the picture... If so send me one and I can start a fuel pump change out program as they look very simular to the 1999 that I just changed in mine... The pump inside is what I need to see.. onecatnodog

John - I am ON my 3rd pump, but I only have the original pump taken out before the one I showed in the pic was put in. I know that it is specific to the 97, but I don't know what makes it different.

Tom - My original pump lasted til I started having problems with hard starts last summer. I bought a new pump last July and had it put in last Thanksgiving. That pump went bad on me and I just had it replaced a couple weeks ago. When Neal replaced it, he said he found some metal shavings on the bottom of my tank directly below the pump. He said he got those out. He said he had no idea where they came from. Appearantly that was a bad pump to begin with. So now, I need a 4th pump. I have always run premium gas in my Prowler.

I just figured that you were getting bottom of the tanker leftovers from the neighborhood Stop & Rob Store!!!

But seriously, just bad luck or could there be some other unknown underlying problem?

Just ordered the SRT4 fuel pump. I'm gonna follow your documentation. Pump arrives Monday. If you don't mind, I might give you a call before I get going. I've been having the hard hot starts now for about a year. It's a no-brainer really. The prowler replacement pump comes with the whole assembly and costs $600 at the parts store... and that's if they have it in stock. Just makes more sense to replace the sending unit for a little over $100.

Thanks John.

My Prowler had the same problem for two years and I put a Aircraft one way check ball valve up by the engine and it worked with out any trouble for close to a year.. I thought about posting up pictures on it but decided that if someone would have a problem with it leaking or a fire that it would come back to haunt me... The best way is the SRT 4 pump for price and performance if you plan on kicking up the power to the engine some day... Make it look like a factory install so take time to hunt down the round replacement pins for the wires... Boulder Electronics had them here in Colorado and I'm sure that you can find them at a lot of places and there not that expensive.. I have a Pump that I need to do the conversion for a fellow Prowler member and since it is a back up unit he said he is in no hurry for it and should be able to ship it back by Aug.. Call me anytime, and I will help out any way that I can... Not that I'm a know it all, cause I'm not but I am willing to help any and all as I have done this pump conversion before... Call if you need me at 720-934-3540 John(onecatnodog)Collins

Hi John....just wanted to say how impressed I am by your willingness to share all your information with the rest of us. In the real world of "Service/Repair".....something I do for a living....only on sheetfed printing presses, a lot of techs aren't willing to share information for whatever reasons and excuses they imply. Selfishness is the best word that comes to mind.....fear of someone overshadowing them someday, I suppose. I commend you once again......the time you have taken to document everything for the rest of us is absolutely awesome and I'm positive it is appreciated by everyone of us in the POA. Hey Guys.....if anyone else reads this and has a spare Prowler coffee cup......please mail it to John so he can trash his PINK FLAMINGOS coffee cup shown in the photos. Just kidding John....thanks again!!! Outstanding Job!!!!

John, about those pins, just double-checking... those are the pins that would fit into the pastic plug right? Since the old wires are mated to the old pins. If that's the case, there is an electronics parts supply shop down the street, I'm sure I can find them there.

Let me know if I'm off track and need to order anything special. I'll be doing my swap next week.

Thanks Buddy

You are correct... It will make the install look factory.. You could also use shrink sleeve and cut the wires but the look is not as good even though no one can see it... Spend the $8.00 and use the pins... This is just my opinion... onecatnodog

Do it once... do it right... I believe in that.

I was initially planning on cutting the wires, tying them and using heat-srink-wrap. I'll get the pins. That's the right way to do it. Can't wait to get crackin' at it. I'll do my best to document it as well.

Thanks

FYI: John, I did my fuel pump replacement!

It took my alltogether 30 minutes. Used a molex connector. Everything else fell into place. It was amazingly straight forward! No more hard hot starts. The pump pushes with authority.

Thank you soo much!!!

John, 1st of all thank you for your willingness to share you efforts and ideas. Regarding the difficulty of starting when hot, I have heared this here and there from a few owners and here on this site, but never experienced it myself ( I have a 99 ). Is this a common problem on the car for a particular year, a hit and miss or just a matter of time and they will all fail?? all of the above maybe?? Just curious if I should expect it like the trans. sensors.

As always, thanks a million.
Will
