we are sending out 4 rims to be powder coated on the inside, to be done at no charge to the customer .the colors are silver or black.instead of just saying no to replacing the rims.what do you think. |

Neal, I think they might look nice in silver, I've seen pics of a yellow car with yellow insides and I personally dont like the look.Is there a "chrome" silver for the powder coating process? Mine are starting to flake and I need options. |

Oh Yeah--nice of your dealership to go the extra mile to even attempt a fix. It shouldn't have happened in the first place though..I'm past warranty so I'm screwed. |

Neal, I'm a new Prowler owner and my '99 has bad chrome flaking on the inside of all 4 wheels. The car is out of warranty by time, but still has very low miles (6000). Has your dealership or D C ever done a replacement or repair on an out of warranty car due to the obvious defect from the wheel manufacturer? Thanks in advance, ZACK |

Zack: Unfortunately most dealerships are no longer covering the rims at all even if you are within warranty. Neal replaced mine (twice) already when they were still replacing them and mine are starting to peel a little again. You can get an extended warranty I believe even it is out of the regular warranty. Neal - I ditto Dusti. Zack - just so you know, the extended warranty excludes the wheels as well. It might depend on your car's in service date, but if the car has been "in service" over 4 years, you can't get the DC extended warranty. Beware of 3rd party extended warranties. |

Can anyone post a photo what "flaky" wheels looks like? I think I've got the "pits" and I'm not flaky just yet? |

Thanks guys. My car has been in service for 5 years, so I'm SOL! Real Rod Bob said he can get them re-chromed for $1200 a set and they will be show quality. Looks like I may do that. |

Chromer - I had the pits on one wheel only,,,,,,like little zit-blisters on the inside, outter edge. I've only seen one flaking wheel, looked like dead skin pulling off after a bad sunburn. Say Hi to Jack!!! |

I know...makes me sick to look at them. But, I did save $1500 on the car when I told the seller about it. It was so dirty with brake dust...he probably didn't notice. Had he kept it clean he might have noticed earlier and been able to get them replaced when it was still under warranty! |

hey Zack: from what i've seen of your car in the pictures of another post, it looks pretty good except for the wheels, i think you paid 25500 for it, even with the 1200 rechrome, i think you are still way ahead of the game to have a car with 6000 miles on it for 26700. then you'll have a perfect car. |

neal; That's nice of you and your dealership...that's some nice customer service when Chrysler leaves us dangling in the breeze with defective parts. ...and I've seen wheels in person worse than that, Zack..... |

Not only is Chrysler to blame for not taking care of problem but I strongly feel the Wheel manifactor should be ashame of this and step up.If my co.have a product out there that was this bad and I knew about it I would have to do something. If not recroming then give credit for customer to buy new wheels. They have to know they have this problem.Thats just my 2 cents worth. |

Gene, I agree this should be a disgrace to DC as well as the producer of the product. This is a perfect example of DC and their contacted for suppliers not standing by their product. If as CJ says DC is monitoring the board then they need to FIX this problem. There have been my count hundreds replaced. They need to replace them all with an acceptable solution. Their current stance on this sucks. Are you really out there DC or is that fact that you monitor this board a facade. This part of the product is inferior!!!let's hear from you!!!!!!! IMHO! I'm not sure D.C. is totally to blame here. The wheels were manufactured by American Racing and were a casting with a small bit of machining. when I mention casting, that means there is a lot more porosity in the material compared to a bulk billet of aluminum that is fully machined. From what Iv seen, the separation or bubbling takes place or start at the tangent of the draft.what I mean by draft is the casting die(the tool that forms the wheel)is in 2 pieces and the draft is where the die is separated. Notice the pictures supplied by Zack. see the ridge in the center, that's the draft area . Now in this area you can see it's a bit rough in finish compared to all the other surfaces. what I'm trying to get at is that the more porous the material is the more chance that the tanking solution, used to clean the wheel prior to plating may not have been fully removed, and just like your skin pores, they tend to hold stuff you don't want to hold even after bathing. This really is just a theory of mine. By the way the Guy that developed the Process and tooling for our wheels just happens to be a fellow Engineer that works with me... |
