Finally some basic common sense. I always wondered where the electricity is going to come from etc.…. .. > Someone needs to let Skippy know.
A DOSE OF REALITY:
Japan's Toyota -- is currently the world's largest automaker. Toyota and Volkswagen vie for that title each year -- each taking the crown from the other -- as the market moves.
GM -- America's largest automaker -- is about half Toyota's size -- thanks to its 2009 bankruptcy, restructuring and $11.2 billion dollar buyout…….they still owe the U.S. Taxpayers.
Actually -- Toyota is a major car manufacturer in the U.S. In 2016 about 81% of the cars it sold in the U.S., came off American assembly lines.
Toyota was among the first to introduce gas/electric hybrid cars with the Prius twenty years ago. The company hasn't been afraid to change the car game.
All of this is to point out that Toyota understands both the car market and the infrastructure that supports the car market. Toyota probably understands both better than any other manufacturer on the planet.
Toyota hasn't grown through acquisitions as Volkswagen has, and it hasn't undergone bankruptcy and bailout as GM has. Toyota has grown by building reliable cars and trucks for decades.
When Toyota offers an opinion on the car market, it's probably worth listening to. This week Toyota reiterated -- The world is not yet ready to support a fully electric auto fleet. This message has been edited by ALLEY CAT on 08-17-2023 at 01:36 PM |

This link about EV's spells it out pretty well about Norway. The government makes it enticing to buy electric cars. http://www.joingoodside.com/blog/electric-cars-climate-policy-norway#:~:text=Why%20Are%20Electric%20Cars%20So%20Popular%20in%20Norway%3F,climate%20policy%2C%20great%20infrastructur e%E2%80%94and%20a%20pioneering%20pop%20band. National news this evening reportesd that the new bigger trucks have batteries that weigh more than a lot of cars. Hence, there will be a lot more serious injuries or deaths in auto accidents. They said some of the battery packs were over 3000 lbs.!!!! They cited the Ford Lightning and the Hummer in the article. |

Hey Alley ..... I fully agree with you and everyone in this thread. First of all, I see plug ins as a big problem. Who looks forward to interrupting their trip waiting for access, then recharging at a remote station? Also, how can our aging electrical grids support the millions and millions of extra users? And what about increasing weather interference in the existing grids (floods, hurricanes, forest fires)? My interest is in regenerative electrical vehicles. For example, I'm a big fan of the upcoming E-Vette, and some of the emerging regenerative Toyota models. |

Greatkat, You don't have to wait for regenerative systems. There're used by every EV manufacture... now. http://www.howtogeek.com/788914/what-is-regenerative-braking/ Having driven my friends Tesla Plaid (750kW/(1020HP), I can tell you it works very well and most times you don't have to touch the brake pedal. |

I waited one year for a Ford Mustang Mach E. Several weeks ago they called and said it arrived. You would have thought I would have been excited to hear the news. I wasn’t. For the last 6 months I have been reading about the car. I have never read about a car that had so many problems. I guess the final straw that made me not to pick up the car were the owners who would travel to a charging station and their car would not charge. They would have to get their car towed to a dealer who had no idea what the problem was. Plus, I don’t want to wait 1 hour to charge my car, when I can get gas in a car in 5 to 10 minutes. Today I went to a Toyota dealership to look at the new Prius. Not one on the lot. They said they have only received 3 with a 6K markup. Also the dealer looked like it was going out of business. There were few cars on the lot. Staying away from an electrical vehicle. This message has been edited by Howard on 03-24-2023 at 12:52 PM |

Sandy bought a new Subaru. Ordered in late Aug and it came in early Oct. No new cars on the lot since they are all sold before they arrive. Not a single car on the showroom floor ever. You can pick the color but that affects wait time. They can't order specific colors, they simply know what will be coming. Take it or leave it but no price gouging. Not electric. Ed They just opened a Subaru dealer down the street from where I live. Lots of cars on the lot. I might go there tomorrow and find out how much they are charging over MSRP for the cars. |

There were no surcharges here. I am really impressed with it so far and I was not really on board with her decision back then, but have since changed my mind. |

Here is a company in Australia that is doing extensive data collection of EV battery related fires. It’s a very informative web site & will answer a lot of questions. There is a menu in the top right corner that will give you access to a lot of facts & stats on EVs. http://www.evfiresafe.com/post/electric-car-explosions This message has been edited by Dick Henry on 03-29-2023 at 10:11 AM |

I have not, nor will I ever buy a foreign car. It might be made here but the profit goes back to the country of origin. And I check and put back many many Chinese made products. I’m amazed at all the EV misinformation and those that run with that misinformation. As for the explosion video; yeah we have never seen a gas powered car explode. 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 Gas will go the way of the 8-track although I bet there are some that still embrace that technology. Bring on the 🔥🔥🔥🔥😆 |

all of the ev's are riding free on our roads. no gas tax. when i run out of gas,i get a can full of gas and i'm ready to go again. you can't jump start a ev. have to get a tow truck. a lot of fire depts are letting them burn out rather than try to put the fire out. took my car in for oil change. they tried to sell me an ev. i said yes with one condition. i will pick them up on the first day it is -20 and go 80 miles one way fishing on the lake. i want the ev 72degrees both ways. no takers. when they say 311 miles, does that mean speed limit to 311 or does it start going slow at 250 with no heat or ac? |
