If you have a 2nd gear transmission sensor go out while traveling, it's imperative to have the right tools to make a quick fix and be on your way. You will need to have on board a socket wrench ( I think it's 1" )to fit the sensor as well as a breaker bar. Now thru 9/26, Harbor Freight has a "Super Coupon" online for a 25" x 1/2" breaker bar for $8.99 - great deal to have with on the road!

Trans sensors will burnout eventually and it doesn't matter how many miles you have on your Kat. My went at 9K.

Good idea to carry spare sensor(s).
There are two. I carry both sensors.
Both use a 1" socket.
A breaker bar seems to me a little overkill.
I had a lot of spare tools so I used a 1" socket, a 3/8 adapter and a 3/8 allen wrench of about 6' length. I had to grind the allen wrench down a little to fit the socket adapter. All in a quart zip-lock under the seat.

They are INPUT and OUTPUT transmission sensors ( 1 of each ).....available at MOPAR PARTS and most auto parts stores.

Common Chrysler product replacement item. 1" deep socket is needed

^^^ picture of what the sensor looks like:

VVV picture of sensor(s) locations, Output sensor is towards the rear,,,,,,,the other forward one is the input sensor. Very easy to change,,,5/10 minute job:

Michael T ,,, didn't you use to use your left-handed, metric, crescent wrench to change out a transmission sensor?

Goes in limp mode, only have 2nd gear going forward, yes reverse still works

In a pinch and no new sensor might be able to remove and clean the tip of the sensor

Don't remember how to tell the difference. Went mine went out just changed both.

Do a search and it will explain, with one speedo will not work

They are available at auto parts stores and $ 20 or so got mine at Napa.

Found this. Older post by AC.

If your tranny goes into limp mode the engine light comes on but the speedo still works it's failure of input tranny sensor

This is also an older post that I made.

This is the emergency kit I carry in the trunk of my Prowler

The bag is the toiletries bag sold in the POA Store. It takes up very little space in the trunk. It will hold much more than what I carry in it, I need to add a small flashlight and spare batteries.

It contains the following

mechanics gloves
3/8" inch Rachet
3/8" drive extension
3/8" Drive 1 inch deep well socket
2 spare input tranny sensors
2 spare output tranny sensors
Instructions and info on the sensors printed off the POA(which includes the symptoms they cause when they fail)
small rachet style screw driver that takes exchangeable tips
small rachet that uses exchangeable tips
a complete assortment of tips (phillips, common, torxs etc)
10MM Wrench
extra mud flap nuts
extra top latches (stainless)
extra top latch clips
small vise clips
extra headlight vents

Actually my sensor burned out returning from one of the Utah Mountain Parks and lucking I was only 10 miles from home and got off the 15 and drove 20 miles an hour on back streets to get home. My Kat had a rear roll pan and it would have been very hard to R & R along side the road unless I was 100 lbs. It was a lot easier using a floor jack in the comforts of my garage.

You might want to give it a dry run to see if your tools will work for you.

^ ^ > They may be a dependable eBay seller, from China,,,but I'd personally feel better paying a couple of dollars more and buy at NAPA, Advanced Auto Parts, Mopar Parts, etc..............

Something about giving my PayPal account number to a Chinese company doesn't thrill me much,,jmo
