I can go either way. Re the bumpers on or off for all the jokers out there.
Some applications with the bumpers on look beautiful.
Some without look equally as beautiful.
I presently have mine off front .

Mine are on but painted the car color. I think the bumpers look great if painted. If not painted they look odd and out of place.

Not a fan of air bags, they do deploy sometimes when driving down the road, yes guy at work had it happen to his wife's lincoln on the interstate, luckily it was the side bag and she was able to keep the car under control. Then ford wanted to argue who was responsible, that she had to hit something.

If the front air bags deploy when driving a crash WILL HAPPEN! I didn't buy any car planning on crashing it.

Steel dashes, hell yes, they look cool on the old cars.

Some safety features are good and have saved lives, but not all have done it all the time, there are exceptions.

Mandated safety devices add weight and just raise the cost of the vehicle and people end up depending on them to SAVE THEM, instead of people driving like they have some sense. Next year I think rear back up cameras will be mandatory, yes they are helpful due to the POOR DESIGN of the vehicles with high belt lines, OH MANDATED CRASH STANDARDS.

I could do without a lot of the mandated safety devices, but that is just me. Let the person be responsible instead of the manufacture having to be responsible for stupid people.

Have you seen this Black Tie with the bumpers painted silver. All I can say is WOW. I will try and find others.

Not just you, Wildcat. I agree 100%. When I first got my drivers license and started to drive, cars had no air bags, anti-lock brakes, head restraints, energy absorbing steering wheels, seat belts or other government mandated safety devices. No one blinked an eye or decided not to drive because of it. You didn't give it a second thought. I really believe that if the government had not gotten into the car safety business and mandated all these changes, everybody would have kept driving just as they did 60 years ago and we would be no worse off. Thousands die every year in car crashes now and did back then. Just a major example of the government trying to tell us how to live our lives. Let the individual decide! I would have no problem driving my Prowler without the safety features that it has now. Besides, just think how much money could be saved if you didn't have to pay for all those government mandated features. I was not going to get on my soapbox but I could not resist responding after reading Wildcat's post. JMO.

I'm not worried about safety....my first several cars were Corvairs and I'm still here.

The car was different and that made it an easy target. Corvairs to the best of my knowledge are the only automobiles to be proven safe in a court of law but people don't remember that, they only remember the accusations.

Yes I still own a Corvair.

Bumpers on....... I kind of like the look. They wouldn't protect much during an accident, and they would probably be a hazard if they were to break off, but Mine will stay on.

I got bumped once in a small fender bender in a Parking lot in the rear. Took it to the body shop he said I see a lot of people take them off. Do you see the rear of the prowler aluminum trunk lid? The rest is like 1 piece? That bumper saved you a ton of damage and cost. We can pretty much just replace the bumper and few things and you should be good. So from that and fact that the front (like the hood) as a bunch of hand built parts. I feel any extra protection is worth it!! I've seen it in action! Bumpers are staying on in gloss black!!

Hard to say,

They look nice with out. But you feel you need them even for a small hit they can protect.

They do look unique.

I kept mines, they guys here who have prowlers all took them off. I am the last one that has them on.

They keep telling me to take them off. But I tell them I want to stand out at the cruise nights from them.

Just the fronts removed. I prefer the look. Tom Mills made a retrofit kit for the turn signals. First class and OEM quality all the way. What a genius that man is....

For those interested here is more information about the wheels in the picture of the Black Tie I posted. I believe these are aluminum wheels and will require polishing to maintain the shine.

You also need a set of Kevlar gloves when polishing, you see the pointers on those babies. Those are beautiful rims. Very nice job on the black tie as a whole

Hi

Any chance of some pictures of your rear bumpers mod ? Sounds interesting

One of the first things I did when I got my Prowler is remove the front bumpers. I couldn't stand the look of them on the front of the car. I also modified the rear bumpers by stripping off the rubber covers, cutting them down in size to make bumperettes and powder coating them black to go with my black and gold theme. There is no safety advantage to having the front bumpers as they are only rated for a 2 and a half mile per hour collision. LOL. The back bumpers do protect the rear of the car to some degree. As for turn signals, I originally went with the Tom Mills kit which is fine, but recently I removed and sold them and replaced them with my own custom version using small LED motorcycle turn signal lights which are much brighter. For me, driving a completely stock car, any car, is too boring. I enjoy customizing them to my own taste. After all, I'm the one who paid for it. LOL.
