Here is a picture of the net mesh that was made by Rickstr's mom. It is one of 3 (maybe more) that I am aware of. It attaches to the headrests with velcro straps. It does a pretty good job of blocking the wind. |

In that picture, there is an Air Patrol mounted. With the Air Patrol in place, the wind was still pushing against the back of the net, towards the back of our heads, indicating it was still blocking wind that got past the Air Patrol. I am not selling them. I just posted the picture since someone asked about it a few months ago. I finally remembered to take a few pics. Unfortunately I forgot to take the car keys to the rental garage so I could not pull it outside in the sunshine to take the pics. |

Ed, that photo is weird or I just don't get the perspective on that shot. What am I looking at rising above the back of the decklid? It appears to be a huge thin airfoil with a tinted window in it. Do you see it as I do? Is is a reflection? |

Ed thanks for posting the picture. I was the one who was asking about it. Sounds like it is a pretty good solution. I wish someone sold them. |

Paul, There is an Air Patrol on the car, also. I took pics with the Air Patrol on and off the car but only posted one pic here on POA. That gives you some idea as to the height of the net, etc. |

Jan, it is the ONLY thing that seems to work. We discovered that by observing PhilG's net and while driving to the Outer Banks. They had a chain link fence on the bridge and I could not figure out its purpose (until I got to the end of the fence). Huge difference. |

I would like to know how well this works. When I purchased the Air Patrol, I was told it was more for looks than function. It really looks "cool." No pun intended. My wife complains about the air behind her head, so this might be a solution. The SSR has an optional screen behind the seat but I have never been told how well it works. |

It works pretty well. Much better than the Air Patrol because it is closer to the seats, obviously. Rickstr's mom made three of them, for Rickster and Mel, Phil Genet and me. I am not aware of any others but they could be out there. Mine is starting to fade due to being in the sunshine. We use it whenever we have the top down and/or the hardtop off. |

The SSR windbreak does not work all that well I'm told. Not only that but the dark color makes it hard at night to see behind you. There is an SSR owner that makes a clear plastic one that bolts on behind the seats that works really good. The top still goes up and down without removing the windsuppressr as it is bolted on and always is ready for any type of wind!. The web site is: www.windsuppressr.com . Maybe if there is enough support, he may want to create one for the Prowler. Super accessory. Wally This message has been edited by wallygator310 on 05-10-2006 at 05:49 PM |

The factory mesh wind break on my 2006 SSR seems to work the same as the after market one that I had on the "old" 2005 SSR. Both keep the cabin draft free. The SSR without the wind break is already one of the most calm top down rides I have been in, add the wind break and it hardly moves the hair on you head. I would like to try one of the mesh wind breaks for the Prowler. |

On my way home from the office last night I went by a fabric store looking for some sort of mesh. I didn't find anything that was usable. I'll have to keep looking. I like the wind block for the truck. That looks slick. I was thinking of something similar to that as well. Maybe I'll go by Home Depot over the weekend and check the price of plexiglass. |

I just found this - http://www.droptop.com/images/wg_mustang2.JPG It is a one size fits all sort of solution which doesn't appeal to me but it is similar to what I had in mind if plexiglass was used. |

I had considered using plexiglas and possibly putting the bottom portion into the map pocket behind the seat to help stabilize it. The problem with plexiglas is that the seats are not always even as far as height and it would prohibit moving the seat without removing the plexiglas. If you make the plexiglas two separate pieces you would eliminate that problem but I don't know how that would look. I tried to get a local automotive interior guy to make some and he was not interested. That was before I received this one. |

Depending on the size and the air dynamics, the break attached to the seats may not be able to withstand the wind from the front, not the blowback. That is why the Windsuppressr is firmly attached. I spoke with Ray and he said he thought of making one but would need a test vehicle and one of his main issues was the ease of installation. He said that if it wasn't easy to install, then most would not even think of buying one. I will be researching this a little more in the weeks to come. Those who know, what is behind the panel behind the seats? Can the panel be drilled for mounting bolts without hitting the fuel tank or other important parts? Wally |

Ed: you didn't say anything about the combination of the Air Patrol and the net. Do you need both or will the net alone suffice to stop the air flow? |

Our Mrercedes SLK came stock with the web mesh wind screen. In fact all Mercedes convertables come with a wind screen as a stock item.. It worked but was not helpful at night. Hard to see thru. This message has been edited by pumpkin on 05-17-2006 at 04:44 PM |

JFBart, It works well without the air patrol. I had never used the Air Patrol until last Fall, although I did have an Air Patrol. I tried it with both. The net works better than the Air Patrol in my opiniion. I have someone who may be interested in making some of them. I just talked to her last night and did not show it to her but she is a good seamstress. It is my son's mother in law. |

Ed - I wonder if you could use some type of rod sewn into the outer strip, something like a thin flexible tent rod, to give it some form. This would still allow the seats to be moved without harming the net. I have a windshield screen that has 2 hoops sewn into the outer rim and this allows it fold up and flex. Just a thought. |
