Jan - I just ordered a set of wide whitewalls for my silver cat from Koker tire. Since I have balls, I'll bring it by your place when done for you to see. If you laugh, I'll do a burnout next to your cat [where it sits],,,,then, have your painter ready to reshoot it, lol. I can not be responsible for flying rocks which may hit your car,,,,act of God. |

Back in the old days,,,,we called them Port-A-Walls. It was a quick fix until one could afford or get some w/walls on their rides. Blackwalls back then were for old people, lol. |

I like the black Prowler with wide white walls . It´s a step further than a average customizing on our KAT´s. Is a nice idea to put a new factory hot rod like the prowler in to a nostalgial hi-boy look. Vintage Wheels offers large Nostalgia Wheels with trim ring. |

The black with the red rims and whitewalls looks great. I don't care for the look on a yellow. Maybe diff. colored rims would work. I am fairly sure the whole intent of the Prowler was a retro look. This message has been edited by ed monahan on 11-13-2004 at 04:04 PM |

I think the red rimmed whitewalls look good on the yellow hi-boy. Kinda looks like he bought the car at Target. |

So-so on the black........definitely not on the yellow. I don't like the really wide white walls.......focuses TOO much on the wheels.........maybe if they were narrower white walls. |

Well - I guess that sooner or later it was inevitable someone would post something on smoothie wheels. I have researched smoothie wheels and talked with numerous companies. At this point no one knows of anyone that makes a 20" wheel to fit our cars. Then you also have to consider the whitewall tires. Retro smoothie wheels without the wide whites just do NOT make sense to me. www.whitewallcandystore.com has a good selection of wide white radials but with 20wheels if you could find them and low profile tires, the whitewall is pretty narrow. The other consideration for me is drive ability. To go with narrower tires on a high mileage daily driver, I wonder how much I would sacrifice in handling? From the performance standpoint, if you go with narrower rear tires you give up traction. -since I just picked my car yesterday with engine enhancements -trust me - I NEED the traction, but that's another story. I really like the looks of the smoothie and with the red outline on my flames, red would be what I would go with. I'd have to lose the front fenders also -another daily driver concern. Smaller wheels than the 20s would work, if you didn't go with the low profile tires. I think it would look awesome, and I'm on it. Also,,The primer color car Dan put up is too dark IMO. The lighter color suede would be perfect IMO. If I had the inclination to get a second Cat. That is what I would go with. Primer (suede, velvet), then with the smoothies and white walls you would really have something. Un cap the headers and you would be back in 1950. JD - I suggest you call Bob Goetz. He made some contacts at SEMA regarding smoothie wheels. YOu are correct about smaller than 20" working. They actually look better in my opinion also because you can get wider white walls on them. I would probablylike 17's on the rear and 15's on the front. However - I'd have a problem now. With all the torque my car is making I'm spinning the oversized 305/45/20's on the rear with 10.3" of thread. Narrower tires would just go up in smoke. The smoothie/wide white look is cool. I would prefer the charcoal primer look vs dark black. This message has been edited by Marty Usher on 11-14-2004 at 03:52 PM |

quote: A old pic, but I like the blue dots too. I don't think you need to settle for narrower tires either Marty. I have to many things going right now to really follow up on it, but my tires are way overdue for replacement. And I don't want to until I find the right wheel for the car. |

I've been considering doing this since the day I bought the Prowler. The way I see it, if you use a 255-70-15 on the rear you would gain in ride quality, but loose in the area of traction (aka cool burn-outs???). You would need to go with a 6" wide wheel with a 1" backspace, to keep it under the fender. You would also need to make a spacer to bring the wheel out for clearance of the caliper and suspension links. Wide whitewall radials are available in this size from at least a few sources (about $160 ea) and the wheels can be acquired from numerous sources as well (about $80 ea, unpainted). Front wheels and tires would also not be a problem (readily available, very affordable). I haven't done this yet, because I think that in order to do it right, you would also have to make some additional modifications to other areas of the car, such as the interior. Too much plastic (not that that couldn't be changed either). Oh well, maybe some day when I'm rich and famous. |

Here's another rendering with what would be 16" wheels and tires to scale. I'm suddenly wishing I'd bought a black Kat instead of a Purple one - I'm likin' this more all the time |

Here's a site that carries a pretty solid selection of wide whites: http://www.hotrodssuperstore.com/16wiwhwastbe.html It looks like they also carry 17's even though they don't mention them on that other page. A 275/60 R17 oughta look pretty good... |

Wow. Check out that site Marty posted the link to - they actually offer 20's with whitewalls. Cool. They have cheater slicks. Man it's been a while since I even heard the phrase "cheater slicks". Makin' me miss "the old days".... |

I'm not sure whether I like this or not. I don't know if it's the yellow wheels or the yellow car...or both. Seems like this look works better on other colors (black, blue, etc...) |

My vote is NO to a retro prowler. I dig your super charged , billet everything, flames[ok]. Now if I can see what a kat with a chrome drop axle look like simular to Bobby Allaway "trackstar" that would be interesting. But I bet the ride will stink if you get away from stock |
