Everyone else had spots and complained about them long before I got them. Mine were not black spots, just discolored splotches if I remember correctly. My car was always in a garage and it was not from bird droppings. These spots were as big as a tennis ball. I got them painted very soon after I spotted them. I had already decided to do it so it was not due to the spots but that was the clincher.

I liked the painted bumpers I had seen. I will not ever take my bumpers off, so I painted them to give my cat more of the "monochromatic" look......rather than have them stand out against the car color. I think I was the first to paint the candy bumpers and a lot of people liked them. I know that I do and it allows the other "mods" on my car to stand out more than the bumpers.

NO BUMPERS for me, thank you. Took fronts off about 1 month after car purchase, and rears off about 6 months later. Really cleans up the lines of the car, in my humble opinion.

Rich - it could be you & Linda riding down the road hanging out the windows with fly swatters so you won't have to detail the car again at the end of the day's cruise.

Good one Marty!

Thanks for that info, Rich... interesting! Very interesting!

Just to add some international flavour to the discussion:

My preference is dictated by European legislation.
It's illegal in The Netherlands to drive without so that
makes my choice relatively simple.
Like the painted bumpers of CJ though together with the
Hardtop.

CJ - I just noticed in this picture of your candy louvered side panels [NICE],,,that they were made without the side marker lights. Wouldn't this be a safety/insurance issue as well?

Having taken mine off and seeing what is there, I can't see that they would protect the front end from any damage at all. To me they are only there to satisfy gov. regs.

I changed my mind when I witnessed Frank and Brandi's car that went over the cliff in Tennessee and the front bumper twisted saving the whole front end from any damage....just unbelievable!

I don't have any to put back on if I wanted to, came without, I prefer them off anyway. Gives it a more of a "kat" look, crouching low to pounce.

AC...Jay removed his front bumpers too but only after polishing the front end but did keep his side marker lights so I guess it's up to each individual as to what they they perceive as a "safety/insurance" issue...JMO

I doubt that side marker lights would have any impact on lessening damage to the car if the car got hit.

If it is a safety issue.........certainly not as big a one as the bumpers. Do all cars have side marker lights?

I believe there to be a federal law that requires that a amber color light source be seen from the "side" of the vehicle to prevent side impact collisions at unprotected intersections at night. Many car models have the amber light either in the front or rear light assemblies, which shows [luminous] towards the side of the vehicle. If the model doesn't have either of these options built in, then a side marker light must be added to the side of the vehicle.

I think it was made a part of Govmnt Regs back in the mid-70's. As I remember.

Well, then........I guess I'm illegal!! But if you can't see that gorgeous Candy Red color......you won't notice the amber..........
