Hi all, I just purchased a 2001 Black Tie Prowler and I'm trying to find out what number she is out of the 160 something produced. I see no numbers on the pinstripe but I have the original window sticker saying she is a Black Tie(yes I made sure the VIN mathced). Can anybody out there help me? ------------------ |

Congrats on your new purchase!!!! Welcome Aboard! The number should be in the pinstripe on the center of the rear deck lid... It's very hard to see unless you have seen one before.. It almost looks like an imperfection in the stripe.. That's the only way to tell what number it is... Even then the number on the car is just in the order Dr. Rue pinstriped them... Unfortunately you can not decode the build number from the Vin. Hope you find it! If the signature and number aren't there that's good evidence of a repaint. To expand on that a little, the signature and the number are dead center on the bottom of the trunk. The entire thing is about 1/2 inch long and it says Dr. Ru and the number. VERY small, you may need a magnifying glass to pick it out and be in direct sunlight. |

Welcome from Black Tie 153. Hopefully you have found the number, if not others are probably right and it has been repainted. I still think the Black Tie is a the top of the list of most impressive Prowlers. I've had mine exactly one year and wouldn't trade it for anything. |

Thanks to all who replied to my post the info was very helpful. Still no sign of any #'s in the pinstripe, so I guess she was repainted , at least on the trunk. I'm going to see if my buddy at the Chrysler dealership can run my VIN and find out more. Also my VIN looks like it could be one of the first Black Ties(or a late silver) |

I've heard there were a few "pilot" Black Ties that were never numbered. If that's the case, yours is the rarest of Black Ties and congrats on the great score! |

Hey Red ... Congrats and you are welcome to take a cruise by the home here in Elk Grove and we can look together ... I have a '99 yellow and there is a '01 Silver and '99 Purple just a couple blocks from me. COuld a used your support in the recent EGV Hometown Parade ... we had almost a dozen Kats ... Thanks for the invite, I'll keep an eye on the events calender. Do you guys do any other local cruises? I've also seen a black Kat prowling the area. Email me directions and if you want I can come by over the weekend. If the weather is OK. Also I don't think my prowler was one of the pilots. I was also told that Dr Ru kept great records and I should get in touch with him, but I'm gonna see what I can find thru DC before I call him. If it turns out to be a silver I'm gonna be real upset with the dearlership. Thanks Jesse

OK, I got the Dogde dealer next door to me to run the VIN and it comes up as being Brilliant silver metalic clear coat and prowler balck clear coat. It says nothing about being Black Tie but I can assume thats what it means. I am waiting to hear from Dr Ru who I left a message for this morning. Also the trunk hinges are silver but the rest is black even under the carpet. Hopefully the good Dr. will have all the answers. Thanks for all the help |

The two colors are mentioned in your VIN...That's a good sign. Why wouldn't it be one of the pilots? |

BT 161 Mike Marciano said he had a list of the pilot VINs and mine wasn't one. The production date is 08 00. |

I just checked the Knippen Report the service dept. got me and it does say the Deck Lid was replaced on Dec 31 '02. Maybe that settles it. Is there any way I can find out more about the repair? |

Jesse, Nice to speak with you today, Glad the issue has been settled. You have a BLack Tie! Now I hope The good Dr has your #. Your hinges being silver, was the only thing that was throwing me off. All the deck Lids were painted with the hinges on so they should have been Black, Now it makes sense..... they replaced the hinges at the same time...or the hinges were on the deck lid they got to replace the damaged one. Anywho, keep us informed what Dr Ru says. Welcome again to a great group of Prowler crazy people. |
