I purchase an enclosed 24ft Wells Cargo trailer for the following reasons. Our Kat requires no cleaning when we arrive at our destination. This is important because I am usually pretty tired if it was a long drive. Security when making overnight stops during the trip and also during some of the longer events. Prior to owning the trailer when traveling to or at events, we three times encountered hail storms. One enroute going through NE, one at our Condo in Park City UT and one when parked at the event hotel in Mobile AL. The trailer would have offered protection in all cases. I pull with a Quad Cab Ram Pick Up with no bed cover, so I also carry our luggage in the trailer. Again dry and secure. Lastly we went with a 24 ft so we can haul our Prowler trailer too if we wish or have the need to. This message has been edited by BeWare on 01-26-2004 at 11:31 AM |

Chuck if you are going to buy go for a 20 footer a lot easier to sell when you are done with it, and with the Prowler being so low get a beaver tail and the side door with as big of guy as you are is a good idea, try to get the same size tire and bolt pattern rim as the rig you will be pulling it with that way you have 2 spares and get a equalizer hitch even if you think you do not need it. And if you are going to use it for more than the Prowler have them install e-track tie downs and get the metal D rings for them. ------------------ |

Gary C--I ordered a 2004 Nissan Titan Supercrew. Its supposed to haul 9400 lbs. I should have it by March. I have thought about the open trailers. I am also worried about Damage to the Kat in a long trip, Dirty, Vandalism, etc? I might only use this 1 time per year. I would drive the Kat to Texas if i was going by myself. I have a PT Chrome luggage carrier. I just don't see my wife riding that many hours. She will tire herself out switching channels between every song. ------------------ This message has been edited by CTProwler on 01-26-2004 at 03:02 PM |

Chuck, I'm not exacly unbiased in this discussion. I will have a 24 foot trailer for sale in the spring (Thanks GaryC). I don't figure many people are buying ... yet. But to me, aside from the trailer size, I think axels are the most important part as a few have mentinoed. The weight of the trailers in the sizes folks are telling you are near 4000 lbs. Combine that with your car weight of near 3000 lbs and you are right at the max for 3500 lbs axels (7000 lb max). If you want to put anything else in the trailer, your pushing the limit. I think the cheaper trailers you find will almost all have the 3500 lbs axels. My opinion is you want the larger ones. But this limits your choices hence raise your costs. Not much difference in new, but will seperate costs on used as they seem to hold their resale better. Just my opinion. |

Chuck, check out some of your local "racers". Most start out with a 20-22 footer, then realize they need a larger trailer for spare engines, tires , tools etc. You may find a good buy in a used one, from a racer moving up to a larger one. (FYI) But buy an enclosed. You'll be glad you did. Jim |

Chuck - our neighbor is moving and using his brothers Pace American Shadow 24' (I measured the outside of the box) dual axle trailer. His brother has used it haul his race cars and will be selling it but I don't know for how much. I have not seen the inside of the trailer but the outside looks very nice. I can take some pictures with our digital camera if you like. I found their website and the trailer looks just like the one in the small inset picture: I was thinking of buying it but I don't think our Durango will pull it very well. Especially since we were t-boned last summer and they had to straighten the Durango's frame. If you want, I can get a contact number and more information for you. I realize the trailer is here on the west coast, but what better excuse to come out here and get some warmer weather Let me know if I can help you! ------------------ This message has been edited by CWatsonJr on 01-26-2004 at 09:12 PM |

We have an open trailer that we use for towing my Prowler to the longer distance events. We've never had a problem and it works fine for us.... oh yeah....we've used it for several rescues, also!! lol! |

We are talking about it. We REALLY REALLY want to go but it is obvious we will have to tow the kat. If we don't tow, we will have to take two vehicles. We know there will be enough empty seats for the boys once we are there, so that shouldn't be a problem. We are waiting to see how we do on our taxes, see if Gina actually gets her bonus (that has been promised for almost a year) and looking for something we can tow the kat on. After reading this topic it became VERY CLEAR that I can't use our Durango to pull an enclosed trailer - too much weight (we added the tow hitch afterwards, it doesn't have the factory tow group). I am not even sure if we should try an open trailer since they had to straighten the frame after the accident. Of course I can pull up to 6,700 pounds with our Dakota (or so the book says) but it is only a club cab, too cramped back there for two 13 year old boys To many questions at this point to be able to commit. I have been keeping my mouth shut because I have more questions than answers. I am so tired of missing out on these events. This year the boys are getting out of school early, so it would be perfect. I just hope I don't have to sit back and live vicariously through you folks another year |

Cliff, any chance you could get some free air miles so two could fly and meet you there? Cincy is a Delta hub so we have weekly deals (to offset gouging the rest of the time) and they are pretty reasonable flights usually. I don't know if you have any of the cut-rate airlines near you. Maybe drive for a couple of hours to another airport where the fares are cheaper? You need to make an event. They are the best. |

Ed - you're preachin' to the choir here I looked at air fares and even at $129 each way it is cheaper to take two vehicles. Like I said... I have more questions than answers at this point, so I am going to lay low |
