Just got home about an hour ago. Need to be back in the office in a.m. to put out some fires. We had a GREAT time!!! The Dragon's Tail at Deal's Gap was excellent! We had one accident - Frank and Brandy's car went over the cliff, but thankfully a large tree stopped it from going all the way down. They were okay and the kat was towed out and they drove it back to the hotel. I'll let them tell you all of the particulars on it and a couple people took pics of it. Very scary!! Wow what a rush though taking 311 hairpins in 11 miles!! The kats are definitely built for that type of driving! Ken and I are standing in front of our kat and I'm not sure whose candy that is. It's not CJ's. She doesn't have flames and had her hardtop on most of the trip except for Wednesday's drive. The road race was today - really hated to miss that. Dodge was testing on our course also, so the top 10 got to drive the testing vehicles. Thanks to Laddie on that one! The event planners were awesome and everyone had a great time!! Tami

Click here to see the Tail of the Dragon's home page with a picture of Frank's car being towed out. There is also a picture of the group (Marty, Rebecca, Frank, Brandy, etc.). Scroll down the page to see it. Tami

David: We left at 6:00 a.m. and got in here at 6 p.m. We stopped and ate at a restaurant so that took a little longer. We were on the road for 12 hours - went 40 to 30 to 82 to 75. Just had traffic in a few places - roads were good - bad rain in Texas - other than that good trip home! T

good time ..must have been doing 80+.. I came back the same way did it in 13.5 ..took off around mid-night and ran in to heavy rain around Nashville... pulled over for a few hours, other than that it was no problem... Ron is on the road I just talked to him, he is 50 miles east of the Texas border...

David: With the radar on was doing between 85-90 most of the way home when I was driving. Ken was a little more conservative. It took us 13 with the stop. Hope Ron gets home without a problem. T

Tami,

No news here. I left today at 9:40 PTS time. Got home at 5:00 (6:00 PTS time) to a loving family ... who was trying to remember who I was!

So we'll have to wait and see who posts info on the autocross results.

Thanks for the comment on the pics. It sure was a lot of fun taking them!

Gene just about slid out on a hairpin. Was able to get it under control though and carried on. Kozican was behind him and I was behind Koz. We were only about a car length from each other - very fun time!!! Would do it again in a heartbeat!! Ken was a great passenger and didn't flinch a bit!! T

Well, I have been home about 1/2 hour. I didn't think much of the trip, myself. It was okay. The hotel was great, the meals were outstanding, we had 110 cats, I think, the Dragon's Tail was out of sight and the trip over Cherohala Skyway was fun, everyone said the Biltmore was great. The Road Course was a blast. (The best time was about 48.5. I had a 42 but you have to do the entire run to win. TOO many rules. lol. My best was 50.9 seconds.) The weather was hot but no rain. The parking lot was jumping until 2 AM at the Goetz bar and pizza joint. A LOT of people did a lot of socializing and of course, the people were the best part of the entire week.
I repeat, for those that couldn't make it, It was just okay. You didn't miss much. The late night cruise Thursday evening after the dinner was a good time. Randy Cobb should be out of jail by the time Lee S's car is ready at the dealer. PRE-MEDITATED racing was the charge. I never heard of that one before. I had just told them the place was crawling with cops, but I understand why no one believes anything I tell them. tsk, tsk. We came thru the tunnel and every dang one of the drivers floored it at the same time and hit the horns, etc. Darn teenagers. I was the only sensible driver there.

Bob Goetz won the autocross, Gary C came in second, and Wayne Finch third, I THINK. Ladies winner was Christy C (C-Note's better half) WAY better I might add. She won a trophy. I think she beat C-Note's best time by 3 seconds. lol.
We had a casualty on the autocross when ROARIN / Lee Schaeffer had a ball joint failure. He needs a new lower A Arm, a ball joint and a rim. I got some of the parts in the parking lot last night for him. lol. It is supposed to be road worthy by Wednesday. Talk about people helping each other out in a pinch. WOW. The dealer in Knoxville and his brother in law, who was at the event really came thru.
Again, I repeat, it was just O K. (probably the most fun I have ever had at any event, REALLY)

We watched old event videos that Mike Gatlin furnished. The biggest laugh came when my nemises, Alley the Cat, introduced himself and Lethia as Ed & Sandy M from Cincy. We had to rewind the tape since we were all laughing so hard we could not hear the next 30 seconds of it. Good work boys. That was the Nevada tape (or whatever tape the Horvath's event was on). Mike, another classic. His tapes are great and you need to buy them.
The door prizes, split the pot, High Voltage Blue Prowler model (1 of 15) were ALL won by Va. Cat DUDE or his dad, aunt or uncle. They cleaned up. We had some great door prizes, a lot donated by Yeller Cat Jay, D-C, Mike K, STITCHCO, Bras by Kal and others that will be listed.
The dinner was okay until the prize drawing. That was a little too long and drawn out.
Man, what a trip. It was great seeing everyone again. I will repeat that the best part of owning this car is the events and hanging with the other owners. We missed Jerry and Marcia and Alley Cat and a few of the other regulars but there were a lot of first timers but I would bet they will be back.
Olivier Ambersole was there from Switzerland but we just ignored him all week. I turned him on to Swiss Miss Chocolate so he likes me. lol

Ed -

The charge was PRE-ARRAIGNED RACING, not Premeditated racing.

When I've got a little more time I'll tell the whole story.

OK, here's the story.

Ed organized a cruise over to Gatlinburg after the Thurs. dinner. Great group traveling in perfect weather.

On the way back, on the strip in Pigeon F., the group was so large we would get separated at the stop lights. Well of course the lead 2 cars had to get on it once the light turned green. I happened to be the lead car at two lights.
Well I HAD to punch it or break with tradition. After punching it at the light before I was to turn to go back to the hotel, blue lights were shadowing me. The officer was ticked. He said that I shouldn'd have done that at the last light and to pull over into an adjacent lot when the light turned green. NO I DIDN"T PUNCH IT THIS TIME! I politely drove slowly to the lot he pointed out and I didn't EVEN consider running because I'm a nice guy and he did have my license. After letting the other couple go who they also pulled (sorry I never met them. Candy red with a black bra)we had a little conversation. He said he was going to write me up for PRE-ARRAIGNED RACING. I almost messed my pants, because I'm from NC and in the South this charge carries the most points and in some areas results in a suspension of your license.

For once in my life I thought of the right thing to say in reponse. I said, "Officer, if you must ticket me please do not send it to my home address. You see, I've only had this car for a year and my wife said if I got another ticket I would have to park it for 6 months"!

He laughed his a** off and told me to go on in!

I immediately drove the two blocks to the hotel, told the story to those waiting in the party lot and went to my room and cleaned my pants!
