quote: That's not entirely correct. If you lease a vehicle, there is property tax in Texas. Originally about 14 years ago if you leased a vehicle here, you got a nice letter in December telling you how much school/property tax you owed on your car. Typically, it amounted to about 1-2 extra car payments. Most dealers never told buyers about this little gem. The tax was for business vehicles. People balked and said they bought the cars for themselves not business. But, with a lease, you don't own the car, the manufacturer or dealer does till the end of the lease and they are using it for business purposes (ie. loaning it to you for money). What happened was, this tax didn't go away but, they included it in the car payment and then proclaimed the dealer was paying it for you. |

That's why I don't lease. Property taxes here in Burleson County (where I live) are about 1/3 of those in Brazos County (where I work). That's why I live out of county and commute the 35 mile drive each way. I just renewed the registration on the King Ranch F-150. It was $58.00. ------------------ |

Wasn't some sort of revolution started a few hundred years ago somewhere that was about the same kind of taxation? What ever happened with that??? |

Tom, I agree.... this state of Connecticut is out of control with taxation! They are cutting 3000 state jobs, put state taxes & college tuition still go up? Huh? This message has been edited by spoons on 01-02-2003 at 10:05 AM |
