This thread has become very informative as it is growing. ART made my day by making me think I am not crazy in my observation, then Just jack burst my bubble with the biggest pin I ever saw with (gasp) logic! I will make sure my first oil change will involve Mobil 1 and a Mopar filter....that much I know for sure. But doing this little start-up trick meanwhile makes me feel better on start-up. Fixxumm....Does your trick have the AC stamp of approval? |

quote: O.K., BT. . . . Is this past the "ON" position"? If so, does anything else turn "ON" that isn't on in the "ON" position? My gut feel is the only thing that should be on in the "START" position (that isn't on in the "ON" position) is the starter (and solenoid) itself. If there's anything else, that could account for this. STRAAANGE??? I'll have to look that up. The question seems to become, "is there anything electrically driven that impacts the oil pressure?". Thinking back to ancient history, the fuel pump was mechanical at one time and transitioned to electrical. Any new electric motor-driven devices that are lubed with engine oil? WE MUST GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS!!! -GRROWL |

These engines are hydraulic lifters not solid. It is possible it is inherent to the 3.5's, if the lifters tend to bleed down. What do you think? That being the case, filters or types of oil will not make a difference until the lifters pump back up. Thats usually only seconds. There might be a better after market lifter, but not sure it is worth the expense or labor. |

Okay...call me crazy too! BT.. it WORKED for me as well. Get the 'lifter' noise 99.9% of the time.. went out today, held key for about 3 seconds, started, no noise! Dont know why... just know that it did. |

For the record, I still think I am a little crazy with this theory. I've had a few mornings where the "trick" didn't work. But I am still working on perfecting it since I hate the sound of the clicking on startup. It sounds too painful. I am now trying to half-crank the engine before a full start to get some oil up there first.... |

And you KNOW that will wear the starter, whereas the clicking has never been convicted of causing any damage. -GRROWL |

I got my engine to stop making noise on start up. I mixed saw dust in with my oil. Boy is it real quiet now. LOL |

BlackAMX, what type wood do you use for the sawdust? I am sure one member will have a recommendation that only hardwood or soft wood works, and even narrow it down to a specific type of wood. |

Ed - I would use balsa wood, as the molecular particles are far superior to any other wood's sawdust. |
