![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I am reading all over the Web about the troubles with the Front Mud Flaps and not trimming them. Spoke with Jay today and he really made me think I better trim them. Has ANYONE put these things on without trimming them, driven the car a substantial amount and NOT had problems with them ? Please let me know. Thanks, John |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Have owned 8 Prowlers and driven them for a total of over 40,000 miles and not one problem...I do try to avoid extra high speed bumps but that is the only concession I have ever made .... ------------------ |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I only have 5K on my '99 but never trimmed them and never had but a little scrape on an incline. It is not worth ruining the graceful compound curve of the OEM flap in my opinion. ------------------ |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Frequent scrapes on speedbumps, uneven pavement, and even the lip of my garage. So, I finally gave in and trimmed 1/2" on each side - much better now. jd ------------------ |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() John, I bought my car new with the flaps already installed. I now have 19,000 miles and did not trim them but they do drag at times. I think they are a little shorter just from dragging the pavement. ------------------ |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Have never trimmed the mud flaps on either one of my cats. Just under 12,000 miles on the black - no problems. Just over 1,000 miles on the candy red - no problems. I'm very careful with speed bumps. Have scraped them a bit on the driveway incline, but no damage and no problems. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Four years no problem.......until, One night, big hurry, plenty on my mind but not mud flaps. I backed up caught flap between tire and slight concrete lip. Car stopped soooo I gave it more gas, WRONG. Pulled fender almost under tire. TRIMMED NOW! ![]() ------------------ This message has been edited by onaprwl on 05-17-2002 at 04:12 PM |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() To avoid any possible problems, I trimmed off exactly 1 1/2 from the front flaps. You still have excellent coverage and protection with no scrapping. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I Did not trim them. I have seen others that did trim as evidenced by the side of the car. Its a matter of inches. Good luck on your decision, if you trim and you get dinged you will be sorry , if you don't trim and you get dinged can you imagine what it would have been if you trimmed. ![]() ![]() Tough call. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I've trimmed mine and several sets of others, if you lay one on top of the other ( upside down ) and use a felt pen to mark it you will have the same curve and then take your time with a sharp carpet knife and score the surface several times so you have a clean cut and then take a bottle tourch and just melt the edge you have a nice cut line and finsh. I did mine because I have 2 large curbs and at stock length the scraped everytime. |
