At least you have mud flaps to trim. Holy shortages Batman, does anyone know where a new Prowler owner can get some front mudflaps before he needs a new paint job????? |

Thought I would pipe in w/ my 2 cents. Mine are trimmed and I have never seen so much as a water splash on the side of my car since I put them on. For me its worth the peace of mind knowing that I am not going to catch them on anything. I told myself if I did see damage or excess dirt on the side of the car I would buy new ones and not trim. I have not had to do that in the 10 months I have had the flaps. -Pete ------------------ |

It depends on your normal driving conditions. 17,500 miles untrimmed. Yes I have scraped them but I learned quickly where they scraped and how to avoid it in most cases. Not alot of speed bumps in the area I drive and no curb at the house. If I had those to deal with I would trim 3/4 to 1" off ------------------ |

I honestly find it hard to believe so many are not having problems with untrimmed flaps. I guess it's a matter of opinion but I bet all of you have heard the loud scrape when going over a speed bump or hitting a tiny dip. Everytime I hear that noise I swear my front wheel well is being bent back. It's a scary noise. I still haven't trimmed them only because I haven't noticed any real damage other than shredds on the flaps themselves. But guarenteed you will hear them scrape loudly on bumps and some dips. |

I put them on tonight - un-trimmed. Can't go down my driveway unless backwards. Will give it a whirl. too much junk being thrown up on the side of the car. I'll let you know how it goes. See some of you in KY..... Thank you so much for the advice. I love the car and don't want to hurt it. John |

John, be careful backing down the driveway. If it catches on anything you will be in serious trouble. ------------------ |

I guess this is the minority opinion. We have no bumpers, no mud flaps and the wheels are out in the open as much as possible. If it rains and gets really sloppy the stuff will be all over our Kat, but it will wash off. When the weather is okay those big, spinning, flashing wheels show the true spirit of the ultimate street rod. ------------------ |

I was not able to drive forward down my driveway without scraping the flaps at the bottom of the drive. Now I always backdown......no scraping......no problems! |

OK, When I put them on last night, one side would not accept the Square bolts all the way into the pocket. They would not slide all the way down and seat properly. Took the car to my mechanic, we pulled the wheel and he looked at them. Looks like the factory filled the little pockets with the glue or epoxy, whatever it is that they adhere the flap holders to the fender with. Don said no way to get the stuff out. So.... the bolts are only about 1/2 way anchored into the pockets. That flap is actually about 1/4 inch higher as a result. I checked and I do not believe it poses a problem. Anyone seen this ? Pulled out of their driveway and there is a slight curb. Went real slow....... the left one (the high one) scraped...... I now know what the sound of a scraping flap sounds like. This was an extremely small bump and I took it very slow and sideways...... Hmmmmmmmm. John |

30,000+ miles with my untrimmed front gaurds on. Only problems are the occasional scrape. I did damage the one guard, but it was a unique circumstance. My girfriend's driveway was designed irregularly as it went up and leveled off quickly, causing a crease in the middle of the driveway. I somehow damaged it pulling in to or out of her driveway. After that incident, I never drove the whole way in again. ------------------ MTD Prowler Intake System 2.2 |

John, the extra glue in one side was almost a universal problem. Leaving it a little high is probably okay. ------------------ |

You really have to be carefull backing up!!!!! I've read all of these comments about scrapes and noise over speed bumps but that is not the problem. I was backing up in a resturant parking lot at night...didn't see a pot hole. next thing you know my Right front fender is under my Tire!!!!! Not a pretty sight. I still didn't trim them...after getting my car repaired, but(1) I don't eat at that resturant any more, and (2) I'm a lot more aware of the surface I'm driving on!!!! Be careful Backing up! ------------------ |
