P.S. I guess I should clarify that last stat. It wasn't me that got the car for $1.00 (darn!).....

O.K., I'll bite, who paid only $1 for a prowler? And why only one dollar? Why not just give them the car?

Yes, I would imagine he probably does. Would you get rid of it? And I wasn't kidding about the $1.00 paid for a Prowler.

Try shopping on the internet.
I just saved $10K over sticker by buying a new Harley out of state.
I just saved $4K off the sticker of a new Mercedes by buying out of town.
I paid $2K under sticker for a new vette by shopping online for best price.
Dealers, not all, will try to hype you about ANY car you want. It's limited, it's special, 3 others want this one, etc. In the end, when it comes time to sell it, that same guy says it's worthless.
If you are patient and can look online, you can find any car below sticker somewhere.

I'm still dying to know who paid this and why $1.

Would they take a 300% increase over purchase price to sell it?

Chrome... I'm close to Magic Mountain, that's about an hour north of those areas, with good Traffic. If you have the time, lets get together. People sell a car for $1 to avoid sales tax. In some states, any used or new Vehicle will be taxed on whatever someone sells it for, not what it is worth. If this is a gift, they will usually, always? tax you on what they feel the vehicle SHOULD have sold for, AND< you also are liable for IRS fee's based on what it is WORTH! Some, many? most? states will, if they feel the sales price is too low, like $1, simply tell you you must pay vehicle sales taxes on what THEY feel you SHOULD have paid for it and you can also be in trouble legally!

Chrome - I think CJ was kidding about the $1 deal.

I am about 17 miles west of Magic Mountain (about 50 miles north of L.A.) - if you guys make it out - let us know... we can all go catch a bite to eat.

No, I was not kidding about the $1.00 for a Prowler. However, I cannot reveal who or why. Just trust me on this one.....I don't lie to you!

Maybe Dr. Rue got the $1.00 car. Or wasn't there a story about a guy who owned the rights to the name Prowler. Thought I heard they had to buy it from him. Maybe he got it.

When My Father passed away in 1969, my car that I was paying for but was titled in his name because he picked it up for me while I was in Vietnam, was inherited by my Mother. The lawyer advised her to sell the car to me for $1 to avoid inheritance taxes. Is this situation similar?

IMO, probably someone related to the project on getting it off the ground. Offer still stands though, I'll give that person a 300% profit on selling me the car over what they paid for it

I think you can have the same name so long as it's different products. I see prowler travel trailers all the time.

No, it was not a sale for tax purposes. It was not a private citizen.

BTW, for everyone's clarification.....

The business card reads.......

Doctor Ru

It's not Rue

You know - I remember seeing an advertisement for the first chrysler (Mulholland) at a Georgia dealership - they wanted 1 dollar shy of 1Mil. This was over the i-net when I was looking for my Mulholland.

I don't know what happened to it and haven't been able to find the ad again.

I thought that Ralph Mullins from Ohio has or had Woodward #2. Not what you are looking for, but 2nd best.

There's that one dollar again!

Perhaps this price was to make up for the goof in selling the other for $1.

I can imagine how that sale went. Yes, we are asking $1 million but, will entertain any offer over $50K

It seems all of the low numbers radiate out from Detroit. My Black-Tie #5 was from philly and Mike's #3 was from Detroit.

Any idea why they don't jumble them up and send #1 of some color to Calif then the next #1 to someplace on the East coast, etc.?

That is an interesting question HiHoSilver. I don't think there has been much posted about how DC actually determined how the limited production cars went out or where they went. Maybe CJ can give us a better idea of the logic.

Here's a hint on the first Chrysler Prowler re-assigned to distribution. Last 8 digits of VIN number are: 1V702140
