Greetings Everyone! I am getting serious about installing the aftermarket performance gear/chain final drive set in my 99 Prowler. I have been told that this particular transaxle (A606/42LE) is already at it's maximum torque capacity. So...my question is, has anyone installed the after market gear set in their Prowler (stock engine/no mods) and are there any horror stories to share? Regards, Quincy |

I installed the gears at about 9000 miles and now have over 93,000 miles on the car. I still have the original tranny and have only changed tranny fluids twice. My car had a nitrous kit for two years and now a stroker motor with gobs of extra torque and to this point the tranny has held up fine. |

40,000 mile of driving/towing/racing and no problems. The only affect I have found is I get a sore right arm from the wife punching me when I stab the gas at a stop light cause I know to 80MPH that Camaro or Mustang cant hang with me. Give Dean a call you wont be sorry. ------------------ |

That is for another website. But if a 50 lb bag costs two bucks, you do the math. You have to use a substantial amount. |

Gears have been installed since Aug Aug 2003. Probably put on 5,000 miles since then. No Problems. Love Them. |

I had my gears in for less than 100 miles when the transaxle "scattered" major league!! There was a tremendous bang AND a small fire. I convinced the delership that the reverse neutral drop at 6,000 RPM was irrelevant, and the problem was caused by the manufacturers defect . ...I LOVE my gears..can't imagine the car without 'em! |

The steeper the gears the EASIER it is on the transmission, A set of 4.56 gears are much easier on the trans that a set of 3.73 gears would be as the 4.56 make it easier for the car to move. Gears may make your trans shift softer than before as it works less to move the car. Barry |

If your engine is turning higher rpms, won't the engine tend to wear out sooner? |

Yes Ed you are correct, gears are easier on the trans. and harder on the engine. Barry |

Thank you all for the timely, honest feed back! I will be purchasing a set of the performance gears for 'Susie' early in 2005. I will contract a local trans. repair shop for installation. Regards, Quincy |
