For those that may be wondering or are interested. I ordered last week and received today the Prowler Hood Prop Rod. It did not come with the screws so I had to order them separately today.

Prop Rod PN 4815796-AC $36.95. The Clip is PN J4007456 $4.20 I don't have the screws PN with me but they cost me $4.80

My 99 was built in August 98 has all the mounting points in place already so I just have to bolt on the prop rod and pop in the clip remove my old gas shocks and I'm good to go.

I also order new headlight covers to paint purple. The interesting thing was the right side cost $5.85 but the left was only $1.95. Go figure. They did come with new gaskets. PN4897006-AA = $5.85 PN 4897007 = $1.95

We also painted our headlight covers and was amazed when the dealer told us the same price. By the way they sure do dress up the engine bay.

The part on either side of the battery opening. Ours have been painted orange. You can see the gauge for adjusting the headlights, as well - that is what is being referred to as the headlight cover.

I'm going to. As I reported in a post last week the hood prop is easily available apparently from any dealer's parts dept. I got mine on Monday. I have to drill one small hole in the crossmember and it's done. No more having my hood drop on my head from my silver 02

Rich Thanks for the information. I am in the process of replacing my second set of hood shocks. The hood prop seems to be the answer to avoid the shock problem in the future.

I was not aware ANY drilling was needed. (Other than maybe one in the radiator cover to receive the rod in the hood up position.) I thought all the hoods were alike and ready to accept the prop rod. What hole did you drill? Where? For what?

I haven't done it yet. It's been rainy and cold here and I'm leaving for Cancun in the morning for a week of laying naked on the beach...LOL! I had read in an earlier post that you had to drill a small hole to attach the prop rod to the car itself. I really have no idea yet until I get to it. I was kinda wondering about something else too...since I'm gonna do this when I get back from Cancun I haven't looked at it yet. And even though it's obviously a simple thing, it would still be very nice to have a picture of a '97 or '99 with the hood up and the prop rod in place. Maybe a close-up or two of where it is all attached as well.
Would someone on here with one of those cars mind posting those pics so we could see what the factory install looks like?

I installed my new prop this afternoon. The rod and clip mount on the hood. The holes are drilled and tapped for screws for prop rod, and just push clip into hole to hold rod when hood is closed. It takes 5 minutes. I do not know where the end of prop rod goes when the hood is up. Either the rod is too long or the hood does not go high enough for the end of the rod to go in hole on radiator support..if I remove hood shocks will the hood go higher?
thanks
Robert

Yes you must remove the shocks. The hood will then go higher.

You either have to drill a hole in your radiator support, or find a good place to set it. Remember tho, if it's not in a hole, you do risk bumping it down, and then you end up with the fallen hood syndrome all over again. If you put a rubber cap on the end of it, that will help keep it from scratching your support, as well as help keep it from sliding out if you don't drill a hole.
Did the new rod come with a rubber piece along the shaft to prevent it from vibrating on the hood when locked down in the hood down position?

yes, the new prop includes a rubber sleeve that keeps it from vibrating when the hood is down. Is there a easy way to remove the old hood shocks?

For a long time I thought about getting rid of my hood prop in favor of the shocks, now everybody is going the other way and getting hood props.

At the top of the shocks there is a plastic cap, It pops out. You can use a small screwdriver. Then the top just slids off. Slide the little bracket on the bottom lay the shock towards the side and it should just pop off.
