Buck Nekkid checkin' in. Made it through with nominal damage. Judging by the devastation I'm seeing on the news this morning, it sure could've been alot worse. When we got nailed by the eyewall we lost part of the addition we're in the middle of building (concrete block no less) which is kind of a bummer as it will screw up our whole construction schedule, but hey - that only qualifies as an inconvenience - a lot of people lost their homes, or major portions of them. 5 million without power as we speak. Astounding. I feel very fortunate. I hope the rest of the Floridians in the POA came out as well as I did. Here's some photos:

Surviving here in the Orlando area... only 3 trees down this time... family, home and Prowler all in excellent shape... power restored this p.m. (only out 2 days this time)... Hoping Ivan "The Terrible" heads somewhere else... Anyone heard from Jay & Nancy? They got hit pretty hard down there. Rick & Phyllis |

Anyone near Jupiter who can tell us how bad it is? Sandy's sister is still in Ocala, waiting until things get a little better. I saw where there are 5 mile lines to get gas. People trying to get into K-Mart or Wal-Mart to get ice. Electricity was out in parts of every county except 6 or 7 counties in the entire state. Wow. |

Dave, it was cloudy all day here but the wind was out of the north. I was attempting to rake leaves and it was like herding cats for awhile. The weather channel shows the counter clockwise wind so I would think it was coming from the East. They told us rain by 11 PM and it is 12:30 and still no rain. Bizarre weather for sure. The oak tree has no acorns this year. I guess the Cicadas took care of that. The leaves are falling extremely early in the year. At first it was just small leaves off the ends of the branches but now it is getting into the large leaves. Last year there were so many acorns it was like walking on ball bearings in the front yard. |

Saturday's local news reported that Friday, several of our electricity company's trucks left for Florida to help restore power. They had just got back the week before from helping out from Charley. Went to a friend's yesterday and they said that Sunday, they saw another caravan of trucks heading to Florida... about 50 trucks she said. Tonight's news reported that a tanker just left our Port of Houston loaded with fuel heading for Florida. We're trying, guys... I think some of those that left might want to hang tight if you can til after Ivan figures out what he is going to do. |

My house and Prowler survived the storm. In Jupiter we got the southern portion of the hurricane eye. 124mph gust, 90 mph sustained. I got power back in 30 hrs (lucky). Here is some photos from the Roger Dean ball field near my house where the St Louis Cardnials & FL Marlins have training camp. 7 of 8 light posts fell on the stadium. ------------------ |

Lucky I guess about only damage we have is a lot of clean up from other peoples trees.I don't have a tree on my propertybut yard is covered with branches-dead limbs etc.the sad part is these people who have these trees stop by as we are cleaning up and wish us luck on next coming storm.I guess our boat dock was weaker than we knew since about half of deck is gone,it lasted 31 years so I can't be upset. All is well and like I've said you must go through a little hell to live in heaven. |

Here it is 5 AM and I finally got my power back! We had a little more damage in my area (Daytona Beach), more shingles flew the coop. Most damage in my area was shingles and more trees down and of course power poles and lines. We went almost 5 days without power this time. Electricity is the most important invention of the past bar none! 2 hurricanes in 3 weeks and 1 more on the way. As of this morning "Ivan the Terrible" will finish what the past 2 have not. Looking for a straight shot up the Florida boot or at the least maybe a repeat of Charley's path. That would be 3 hurricanes in 4 weeks, is that a record? I'm not even taking the shutters off the windows or putting the generator back into hibernation until Nov. when hurricane season ends! As off yesterday morning there still was anywhere from 50-80% of the homes without electric. I know that a bunch got some back yesterday and maybe a good portion will again get some back today. The help from out of state is enormous and we all appreciate it greatly.

At 9 a.m. mandatory evacuation went into effect for all non-residents of the FL KEYS. At 6 p.m. the same goes into effect for all mobile home dwellers. CJ....still would rather live in FL anyday over MI. This message has been edited by DIXIE Cat on 09-09-2004 at 08:31 AM |
