PG or her dad (Never sure with those two ) got it. that sure wasn't tough to spot! So what do you think of the new top that covers the roll bar? The look was different than I expected, but I do think it looks even more retro. JMO. Any others? theDQMan - sorry about that, yep that mod is there too. If you would like to see beter pics of that, check out this thread. This message has been edited by whealy on 04-27-2003 at 12:10 PM |

I'd go with the conv. top being changed also, I'll add there's a roll bar inside the Kat now. Al |

Thanks whealy!!!!! I like it.....the rear window is obviously larger than the one in stock top but does the bar still impede your vision? I like the boxy look and it doesn't take away from the lines of the car. Also, from the side view, makes the front end look a bit longer. Great job. Bill - I admire you for sticking with it because you were committed to have a roll bar. I agree with CW that the boxy look makes the hood look longer in the side view. Any pics of the roll bar with the top down? Marty ------------------ |

Al, Yep! CW, Thanks! No, the current roll bar position does allow for me to see out the back. Although, if You look close enough, you can see the roll bar is pushing on the top. The roll bar can be cut. I just worried that once it is, the rear vision will be too small. If the window were shifted down, I could probably still see. Of course that would have look wrong on the exterior. Hence my dilemma. Somewhere in the process we lost the comment to lay the rear bow back farther. I guess it just go lost in the shuffle. If we had laid the bow back farther and kept the height (as now I realize I’m comfortable with the look), I could actually have increased the roll bar height! I’m 6 foot and now have at least 3 – 4inches of head room above me. It would have made the rear panel from the side view go almost vertical. But again, I think it would look fine. So now do I work with what I got or fix it to what I perceive to be the best situation (i.e. redo the top). Haven’t decided yet. May depend on how low we need to lower the roll bar. Marty, I didn’t take any shots with the top down. And now it’s dirty from taking my son to soccer! I still don’t have the roll bar chromed. That kind of depends on where I end up. But I did post them here. Of course I think you have already seen these. Thanks for your words of encouragement! This message has been edited by whealy on 04-27-2003 at 02:44 PM |

Don't laugh but a bright (like Ferrari Fly Yellow) Yellow painted roll bar would look really great against the dark blue. Dark Blue and Yellow is a neat combo. Then you could change the pin stripe to yellow, brake calipers to yellow and on and on and on........( actually the yellow calipers also would be a really cool look) I had a Dark blue Porsche many years ago with yellow wheels and a couple of other things and it looked great, like an early Penske race car. [QUOTE]Originally posted by WildCat: [B]Bill, it looks good. Now you need to make kit for top and bar to sell the the racers guy's that really need one. I agree Rich. NHRA rules call for a roll bar for convertables 13.99 or quicker. I have a hard top on order with Bob (shipping next month) which according to the techs at the track will classify the car as a hardtop and not be an issue 'til 11.99. The top will be completely unfinshed and only used for the track. A roll bar would have been nice but the hardtop was available now and here in the high country racing season is just beginning. ------------------ |

JRL, Certianly not laughing. Was thinking about matching the color of this door panel for the roll bar. I think it's a close match to the current pin strip. But I decided with as dark as the Mulholland is, I couldn't go wrong with chrome. Thanks for the suggestion. By the way, this isn't my interior ... yet! Marc, Understood. I was surprised this past week with the bump of the delivery top introduction thread. It said it had an integrated roll bar? But of course the price difference between it and the hard top is still pretty significant. Best of luck on the racing season. Be sure and keep us posted! Nice job Whealy I like the bar AND the top. If it's not quite how you like it I'd redo it, something that unusual should be exactly what you wanted. Do you have to move your seats forward? ------------------ |

Marc, Not exactly sure where your going with the seats forward question but I'll try to answer anyway. I'll just say the roll bar ties in about even with the top mechanism attachment just behind the seats. So no, the seats and the bar do not touch but they are close. Whealy, Prowlergirl's dad would like to claim credit but it was actually Prowlergirl herself who discovered the modification. I hope we aren't confusing our fellow members by both making posts or posting replies. All of my input will be signed PGD meaning Prowlergirl's dad. Another way to tell the difference is her comments will certainly be more profound, accurate and less controversial. PGD aka Ron |
