I got hassled by "Da Man" yesterday for no front plate. he was nice, and courteous, but gave me a written warning to get one on the front. Oh well, it was a nice run for 6 months. In a small town here, I can pass the same cop 5 times in a day, I am a marked man now. Gotta put one on the front now....

Bob Goetz from www.realrod.com is hooking me up with his custom front plate holder that "invisibly" mounts under the bumper....(NO WAY am I drilling 3 holes in the front of the bumper!) he only has a few left, so if you are contemplating having to put on a front tag, better grab 'em while you can. When he sells out, that's it....These are custom made and custom formed to the bumper.....Then molded in ABS.

No other tag frame mounts like his does....so it's a decent compromise for having to carry a front plate...Sure beats having one slapped on the front of the bumper.

Actually if you have front bumpers these are very easy to make and cheap. Here is what I did. Went to Home Depot and bought 2 of the metal SS "T" braces that you use for say woodworking. They are about 3" wide and have pre drilled holes in them. You then bend the bottom part of the two "T"'s at a 90 degree angle. The top part of the "T" is now screwed under the front bumper inside the channel. You space the two "T"'s the width of the license plate lining up the pre drilled holes of the "T"'s with the holes of the License plate. And you're done for less then $5.

Front Plate Mount-Better, Faster, Cheaper (Free!)

It uses two bolts to replace 2 pop-rivets and pre-drilled holes under the bumper that look like they were put there just for this purpose!

You guys have some really cool ideas and bracket designs...

I like Bob and his products, and it is already ordered.

Stevedymo...I just ordered a bunch of stuff from carnuts...didn't see the bracket offered, but wasn't looking for it at the time of order (hadn't been pulled over yet). The front bracket looks cool, since it's symmetrical to the car in placement....But I want to hide it under the bumper a bit.

GRROWL: I can't beleive you parked in the back of a lot and STILL got hit! You must have wanted to kill that punk....

Sorry you had to bite the bullet. I still have not put a tag on the front of my Kat or the PT Cruisr. I guess sooner or later it will happen. I guess those guys get bored and have to find something to write up drivers for.

I had the same problem so this is what I did...With the use of a electric actuator I can bring it up or lower it from inside the car.

That would be a cool trick. Keep it up all the time. When the cop pulls you over, lower it before he gets to your car. Poor guy will think he's goin nuts.

I got the realrod bracket, cut it and added some spring loaded down hinges to it. Went to a trim shop and got a electric actuator that was for a PU truck sliding rear window. Put the actuator behind the left side panel and connected the cable to the plate. Added a bracket to the plate that would lock it in the down position. When the cable pulls the plate up it hits the bracket and pulls it over center allowing it to go up. When the it goes down the spring loaded hinges pull it down when the actuator allows the cable to extend.

Black Tie 161,

I would run w/o the front plate but keep the front plate inside and throw it on the dash if you get pulled over again in MD.

Hey BT161,
I guess that keeping our Kat in Pennsyvania has one advantage. The Pa. cops can't hassle us about a front tag because we got Maryland plates!

KAT 2K: That is maybe THE COOLEST invention I have seen on this site! You been holding out on us with your genius!!! That is so cool I can't stand it!

NITEMAN: I gotcha....and PA doesn't require front tags to begin with, right...I was so jealous living in Joisey at the time...
