I am not sure of your question. I have a hardtop but you do not need to remove the soft top from the car. If you are out for a drive and get caught in the rain with the hardtop mounted on the car, you would be out of luck. I don't know of anyone who got rid of the soft top, but that does not mean someone didn't do it. I am just not aware of it. Others will chime in with info. |

...the top release under the decklid isn't connected to the top at all...it just releases the pins from the decklid....even if the top has been removed, they should still be there ....I think thats what you're asking |

I don't have a hard top but I thought it hooked the same as the soft top which is in the deck lid. So if the latch release is still in the deck lid I would think your in business. Then again I might not understand the ? either. |

well i have custom fiberglass work and they removed the soft top completely. i remembered their being a lever on top that you pulled to release pins. my question would be if you have the hartop and the softop assembly is completly removed can or has someone rigged something so you can still use a hardtop?? |

I agree pictures of your set up would be really helpful in us giving you any suggestions.. The release assembly was actually mounted in the deck led. I would think that some kind of pull cord mechanism me be able to be created. This message has been edited by BeWare on 01-07-2008 at 09:03 AM |

Wild Thing, Can you post some pictures? Would like to see it. I have no convertible top on one of mine but my decklid has not been altered although the inner tub has been completely refiberglassed to conform to amps and speakers. |

deck lid is not exposed at all, has anyone configured anything on the hardtop itself? |

It sounds like your decklid no longer has holes for the top pins to go into, much less be released from. If this is correct, a hardtop is not going to do you any good. If this is not correct, then the holes are there and the release mechanism has been released and the location for it under the decklid above the speaker box has been filled in fiberglass leaving no location to remount it. To our knowledge, nobody has ever done anything like that before, thus nobody has done any mod to allow for the top pins to be released from the decklid any other way than the normal way using the release lever. As stated, possibly a pull cord could be made similar to the manual release for the decklid but it would have to be a pretty stout line. Those springs are fairly strong. I hope this helps answer your question. Either way, I think we all would like to see some pics of your mods. I'm thinking the space between the speaker box and decklid is covered in fiberglass and that the holes for the pins are still accessible. You need to have a stereo wiring guy put actuators in to release the top. That's the way mine is done. That is the way George Maxey's old car was done also. Then you need to jsut push a button on your car alaem remote and that will release it. Let's see some pics of your setup. |
